RAW files and Adobe Photoshop

Help! I just been bought the K100D for my birthday and loving it. As a user of Adobe photoshop CS2 I read that I can save my photos as raw files. I uploaded them and these appear as xxx.pef I opened CS2 and tried to open the files and it states that these are not recognised??? I use a MAC not that should be different from windows. It states that the default is the Pentax software which I do not want to use. Can anyone please help? Thank you Minty.

Photoshop CS2 supports RAW PEF's from your camera. If you are running only the 'shrink wrapped' version, you'll need to connect to the internet and upgrade your Adobe Camera RAW software (the bit that does the conversion from RAW to JPG/TIFF) to the latest version. I think this is V3.7 for CS2. Don't try and use the version 4.x, it will not work.

I opened a .raw that was with a magazine shot on Nikon. This appeared as a xxx.nef file with a text icon on my desktop. I opened it with photoshop and it opened in the camera raw plug in but it will not open the xxx.pef files as it states that it does not recognise this file type?? I plan to upgrade to CS3 so I think I will bring this forward and see if this helps. I also live in Spain on the Alicante/Murcia border. I'm using Elements 5 at the moment.
This willopen all my RAW data from all my cameras (K10, *stD, Ds)

Not sure about the K100 though. But should be the same.

I use Photoshop CS2 (windows) with the Camera Raw 3.7 plug-in and it opens PEF files from my *istD and K10D so I’m sure it should open PEF files from a K100D – it should be listed on the Adobe website. It took some searching but I found the download site for the older versions of Camera Raw for Mac here LINK
