Why don't you write that to Pentax, they might give you an answer.
I don't have a problem since I convert my files to DNG.

I created a shortcut to the 32bit version of windows explorer & had to try & remember to use that for a thumbnail view.

Until I found a codec pack that used to be free, but is now $9.99 unforunately. link

I agree. I'm using FastPictureViewer codecs but I can't get any updates.

hmmm, your DNG files show up in windows explorer as thumbs, doesn't in mine just shows up as dmg icon. Of course they open in photoshop but that's not the point, what I need/want is the convenience of being able to quickly visually browse a folder full of raw images.
Yes I know of FastPictureViewer but after spending a few thousand $$$'s on cameras and lenses I would expect pentax to spend five minutes to write a new codec to work on 64bit platforms. Ok, 64 bit may have been a bit of an oddity a couple of years ago but these days, especially with the release of win 7, I suspect it's almost the norm. As for writing to pentax I've done that before with no response at all from them, I'm hoping they may have some one read these forums

That's always the case.
Pentax at least give you a hood with each lens with Canon that's an extra you need to pay for. Pentax comes with PP software I believe that with Nikon that's also an extra you need to pay for so yeah I can live with having no 64bit codecs but you're right though.

I believe I had some codecs last year that worked with 64bit, don't know if it was also PEF but it was DNG for sure.

Someone linked it here on the forum and I can't find it so fast.

I've contacted pentax where I live about the lack of a 64bit codec and they have informed me that they have passed the message on to head office in Japan, it probably wouldn't hurt and maybe even help if a few more people on this forum did the same. Anyway we'll wait and see.
