Question about new Pentax rumour.

Posted 15/08/2009 - 05:18 Link
Yesterday, I read something on the board regarding a new Pentax being launched. Did this new camera turn out to be the K-7 or was the rumour started after the K-7 graced us with its presence? I had heard that the K-7 was to be the K-1D and have 18.6MP with a full frame C-MOS sensor. The rumour I had read on here, was that the new Pentax was to be their first Pro camera. I am still holding out for a Pentax with a faster shutter synch.

There will always be rumours. I think the current ones are:

New large format
New mid range (K20d/K-m replacement)

But feel free to start your own!

I too am waiting for a full frame Pentax, I only bought the K7 as a stopgap , Though i have to say its a great little Camera in its own right especially with decent glass on the front. As For shutter sync, With a dedicated flash even my old K10 could sync up to 1/4000 sec so i`m guessing the K7 will go up to 1/8000? but i have not tried it yet!.

Regards - Pete.

Only the 645D is going to be in production shortly, forget FF for the moment.
Do not ask me where the info came from because if I tell you I would have to kill you . But just take it as from a very very reliable source

That's more like it! (I'm sure Unlocker will be keen to get his hands on it for a couple of weeks. )

Any news what Kodak sensor they will use Amin, the KAF-31600, the KAF-39000 or the new KAF-50100?
Don't ask me how I know it will be a Kodak I'll have to kill you too

Also the lens for the 645D are on the roadmap so it isn't that surprising the 645D will come, it will be a Japanese export only btw so you will need to import it

Thank you Amin, would be interesting to know what the MP of the sensor would be. They are all CCD btw so no CMOS for the 645D if the rumour is right.

If the camera would come out for the right price it might become quite an interesting camera certainly because the older 645 lenses are relatively cheap second-hand.
Would anyone want to guess what the price might be?

£10-12,000 body only to undercut the Leica S2 I reckon.

A third of that, I reckon.

If it is a third of that then I may have a fighting chance of owning one after all, however, if it's using the same sensor as the Leica I can't see how they'll be able to shave *that* much off the price.

I'll be happy to be proved wrong in this instance though.

It all comes down to volumes. Priced correctly, this could be a winner for Pentax. The 645 was very popular in its day.

If and when the 645D makes it into the market, it will because Pentax have a very good idea how many they will sell, or maybe have pre-orders from existing high profile 645 users. They must think it will be their advantage, otherwise why bother?
Best regards, John
