just bought a Q lat week and it has firmware version 1 on it,when I put the usb cable into the camera it switches off straight away and the screen with the firmware version will not display anything when I press the controller right to start the download,any ideas?,I may be a bit dense but I cannot anything to happen,thanks

You need to copy the firmware update file to the root directory of an SD card. Please read and follow the instructions, ie Updating Procedure on the download page linked to above before attempting the update or you could wreck your new camera.

Having read it, if you are still not clear on the procedure then ask again.

While you are doing the update if your Q has the The 01 Standard Prime Lens and/or the 02 Standard Zoom lens then it would also be worth checking that their firmware is the current V1.01.

The lens firmware update has been out for a while but both lenses that I bought recently had the older V1.0 on them.

You can download the V1.01 lens firmware here. The upgrade is performed in a similar way to the main firmware and the instructions can be found on the download link.

That's a good point, they will almost certainly need updating too.

Could I also point out tat the file downloaded from the Ricoh site via the OP's original post is a .exe file. That needs running to extract the .bin file that has to go on the SD card to perform the update.
