Q at ISO1600

Funnily enough, I am no Pentax fanboy as you put it a couple of comments back. I tell it as I see it, and there are lots of cameras I like and use. But this forum is Pentax User and other cameras are off-topic unless of interest to Pentax users for some reason.

We've now established that the Q sensor is not the same one as your compact Smeggypants, maybe the same type but not the same one. It's a new version.

Thus the dangers of speculation in advance. Now the TX-5 is nothing to do with the Q, at least not in more than passing regarding the sensor evolution, so please get back on-topic.

So they've used the same sensor circuitry and added some more pixels?

The IQ of pics I've seen from the Q look exactly the same to the pics I get from my Compact Smeggypants

So I would disagree the sensor of the TX-5 has nothing to do with the Q. to all intents and purposes it is the same sensor.

Funny that a published 'review' makes a vague and unsubstantiated statement that it's a new sensor not used in any other camera and that this is taken as gospel. It's in a published review, so it must be true.

Yet when there's actual evidence it is the same sensor, but with added pixels this counts for nothing?


No problem - I am a Pentax user and I am interested in other cameras from time to time.

Something I've always wondered though John - we are able to discuss other brands in the General Digital Photography chat Forum are'nt we?

So both cameras have got SR and are made of metal. So it's unlikely that Pentax would have to make it out of plastic and ditch the SR in order to sell it for £300 instead £600

The price of something is subjective so if it's right for you then it's right, and no one can argue against that.

The General Digital Photography section is intended for discussion of Photoshop, printers, web matters, in other words things that apertain to our Pentax photography that are not about compacts or DSLRs. The peripherals if you like. If you read the description of the section, that's what it means.

If we remember that the function of the site is intended to be a resource for Pentax Users, then it really sums it up. Obviously general photography comes into it, but not somebody telling us all about their new Canon DSLR, for example.

It's not proved to be a problem so far, but we're not protecting anything, what we are doing is ensuring that when Pentax users arrive here looking for help with their cameras, that they find a Pentax dedicated site.

I also dont see the two being mutually exclusive as long as the right framework is provided. This is just my humble opinion.

ePhotozine is of course an option. But that's a different community. Another forum to have to keep checks on.

When the K-5 had just appeared last year my Canon shooting buddy linked me to some threads at the Canon photography forum where they were openly discussing the K-5 with many canonites saying how good it was ( to the annoyance of some Canon fanboys )

And yes as you say many snappers use more than one brand.

The ground rules are already established and it's not proposed to change them, it soon gets out of hand and dilutes the Pentax nature of the forum.
