Went to the Farne Islands on Sunday (19th June 2011). Still sorting through photos, but have pulled together the Puffin shots. Here's the set on Flickr Puffins, as I din't want to overload on here.

Already looking forward to next year

You have some classics there, Alan. How was the weather and the crossing? It was pretty wet in Weardale for the car run.

There was quite a swell in the morning Barrie, and it was touch and go whether we would land on Staple Island. Thankfully we did. Rain held off until mid afternoon at which time I swapped from my 150-500 to my kit 50-200 WR. So pleased I took it.

On the drive home at tea time the weather took a turn for the worse, with a "river" on the road in Lesbury, and lightening all around me.

Comical looking, but obviously good at fishing! Well caught (you and them)

I used the Kit WR lenses for the cars. They do seem OK don't they? I had one panic moment in the rain when the K5 froze and I had to remove the battery. However it worked ok after the restart and no problem since.

Funnily enough Barrie, or maybe not funny, the same thing happened to me in the rain too, whilst trying to capture a gull raiding a cliff top nest.

Now from your post, the rain is the common denominator. OR, it happened once with my K-x too, and Gulls are the common denominator

Nice shots Alan

I intend one day to photograph puffins - If my shots turn out as well as yours I will be chuffed

Thanks everyone for kind comments. Found the landing shots with sandeels very difficult Smeggy. My recycle bin is full of "nearly" shots. Nice when it works though

What great shots, and such endearing creatures. One of these days I *will* make the pilgrimage to see these guys in the flesh.

Top stuff
