How is this done ? the camera won't let me set less than 1/180, so how is this acheived ?
If you have a Suitable Flashgun then First Switch The Camera on and set it to either Manual or TV (Shutter Priority) it works in some of the other modes too but the Camera will set the Shutter/Sync speed. Set the flash to HSS and switch it on. You can select any shutter speed that you like and the flash will sync. But it is a good idea to extend the time the Camera is Awake to more than 3 minutes because if the Camera goes into Energy Saving mode before the Flash then the Shutter speed will revert back to 1/180th. It doesn`t matter the other way around. It works in Wireless mode too if your flash/ Camera is set up for this.

Surely 1/250 is less than 1/180 !? (faster) and 1/250 or less (1/500 etc.) is what we need for fill. Or am I missing something ??

I was looking at this earlier, but wasn't sure how much of it applied to the k100. Thanks for that

I was talking rubbish. Please see my edited post.

I have been trying this on my K20D and AF360FGZ, and it will only let me use a shutter speed of 1/30. I shall keep trying.

I use MORE to mean FASTER. As in, more speed.

Not everything such as using the build-in flash to trigger the flash gun wireless but the exceptions are written in the explanations.

It`s not a Zenit that you are using is it? They only used to sync at 1/30th!
Are you setting the Camera to Manual or TV?as these are the only setting that allow you to select the shutter speed. It does not work at all in fully auto and the Camera set`s the shutter speed in Aperture priority.
