It's hard to say without knowing what the flower looks like.

But in general, I think that if you think you might have overdone any edit, you probably have.

doesn't quite look real.....perhaps you did not go far enough?
remember, when a painting looks just like a photograph it is considered art....
when a photo looks like a painting...it is considered art.....
but when either looks half way in between...It gets harder to tell if it was expression or mistake.....
either way it's nice to look atjavascript:emoticon('')
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Hi Clarky,
What really bugs me is the Blue Thing in the background. It distracts alot, while the flower itself diserves all the attention. Whith a few minor adjustments and some cropping (3 minutes in PS) It looks a lot better. IMHO If you want i post an example of what i mean.

Martin

OK Clarky, what i did was some cropping. Putting the flower in the lower right corner. To get rid of a lot of distracting background. The blue parts of the Thing i handled with the change color brush in PS. Very easy to use.
I did not change anything else of the picture.
It was a bit of a quicky in editing, could be much better executed by me

Thanks Martin, My PS skills leave a little to be desired so i apprecitate the effort
The protea was taken on a friends property (she has 100s of them) and she wanted a nice print of one for the house, so i am trying to do it justice
Thanks again.

My tip of the morning...

Easiest and fastest way to get rid of an unsightly coloured item (the blue in the background) in Photoshop (or Elements) is this:

* Add a new layer
* Change the layer blend mode to "Color"
* Pick a soft brush, opacity probably around 50 - 75%
* Alt-click on the green nearby the object
* Carefully paint over the blue

This will quickly change the colour of the blue item to green
I would suggest repeatedly Alt-clicking to pick up colour so the painting isn't too uniform. But since you're only changing colour, the luminosity stays put leaving it real enough.

(It can be a bit more tricky if the object is actually brighter than the surroundings - you have to control the luminosity as well. But in this instance it looks like the blue and green are of a similar luminosity)
