Problem with K-x's Live View

I've encountered a weird issue with my K-x. I've had the camera for over a year but the problem is recent.

Whenever Live View is on, whether filming or taking pictures, when I press the shutter button half-way down, the Live View goes blank and the mirror slaps.

Instead of doing the contrast detect AF, the mirror slaps (is it the mirror?), screen goes blank, camera does the regular autofocus, mirror slaps again and the Live View switches back on. And then I can take the picture.

Oh, it's kind of difficult to describe but I hope you got the idea. Now I hope it's not a problem per se and I've just messed up some settings but I can't figure it out.

Thank you.

You probably change the contrast AF to Phase AF, you can change that setting somewhere in the menu.

I'm not very helpful, but i don't have a Kx so can't look it up very fast.
It's either in the Live menu options or in the Custom menu.

And that's the problem solved. Didn't even know I could change that. Thank you!

yes it is.
last weekend my wife came to me with our kr complaining it was acting very strangely... image playback was not working, lens constantly hunting, live view not working right..blacked out lcd, no menus showing up...still able to fire the shutter though.. just plain wonky... naturally the first thing I did was pull the battery and restart the thing.. but no, still wonky.... I pressed the shutter button and knew instantly something was wrong...
on close inspection... a spec of sand wedged in the shutter button, keeping the shutter button half depressed...
rocket blower and fine sewing needle got the grain of sand out and all was fine in the world again.

so naturally this thread caught my attention......

Welcome to the forum...
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.
