Prime recommendation

I'm looking for an economically priced prime for my K5. I missed a DA 35mm 2.4 on the 'bay last night, which was boxed and in mint condition. That's the sort of the budget I'm working to.

Any suggestions you might have would be great.

What did the DA 35mm 2.4 on the 'bay go for?

Aside from that budget, what focal length and widest aperture are you looking for?

Primes come on all kinds of focal lengths and apertures. Not easy to answer your question without you specifying your particular needs.

Ah, I omitted to mention what the lens sold for. It went for £75, which was a complete bargain given that it was spotless.

That was a bargain indeed. I wonder how many unused ones will appear as a result go Ricoh giving them away free at the moment?

Look in the classified ads here, the 50mm 1.8, 35mm 2.4 and 40mm xs are really good value.
Lurking is shirking.!

I was looking at the XS, but it only comes with a rubber lens cap, which doesn't stay in place from what I've read.

There's a 35mm prime on ebay at the moment for little money. The problem is that the outer ring on the mount is slightly damaged. It does attach to the camera the seller says. I'm concerned as to why the ring has become damaged though. T0hat is to say has it been dropped.

Is there anything that can be done about my not being able to contact people via PM for 30 day's? Happy to buy off the Classifieds, but somewhat of a hindrance when I can't actually contact sellers.

+1

Once they contact you via PM, then you'll me able to carry on contact/negotiations with them via the PM system.

Has anyone had experience with the 40mm XS and what it's like to use? I've had a look at some of the photos that have been taken with it and they're rather impressive.

Outstanding quality for the size and cost. It would appear that the optics are the same as the Pentax 40mm Limited, but at a fraction of the cost.

The previous owner of mine made a small hole in the rim of the lens cap and attached a 'keeper cord' so it wouldn't get lost. This also makes it a tighter fit so it doesn't come off.

The above is just a casual test shot, but it was a dull overcast day yet the colours are good and the image has plenty of contrast and loads of detail.

The 35mm is now 119 GBP on Amazon. I've got this lens and the 70mm limited, and to be honest it's hard to tell the difference in IQ between the two.

Picked one of these up and I'm looking forward to testing it out next week. I'm grateful for all the advice I've been given in the preceding posts.
