Supply and demand means prices for these are quite high. Check out www.ebay.co.uk to get a very good idea what the going rate is.
Best regards, John

Thanks John,

I can't see any that have actually been sold on ebay to give me an estimate of the price they are selling for.

I sold one a year ago for £13 - a bit disappointing but that's market forces!

Hi Pete
I take it you missed out on the Super A with an A f1.4 yesterday, my max was spot on BTW.

There's not been many F or FA f1.7's lately mostly F or FA f1.4's but an F f1.7 went today for £95m ebay it No 260094380111, thats about the going rate at the moment.

If your patient and lucky you can beat the odds somtimes....

I would say no more than £20 for the K mount, the KA versions are fetching some good prices on ebay though, obviously word has got out.

Quick Edit....WHOOPS, sorry misread the post, thought you were after a manual lens.

Try this Pete - http://www.pbase.com/cameras/pentax/smc_pm_50_17
They're not all necessarily with the K10d but some will be

incidentally, Pbase's search by camera/lens function works well and can be quite useful for exactly this situation...

edit - Just hit 50 (worthwhile I hope) posts!

I paid £59 for my mint SMC-F 50/f1.7
And that was from a dealer. You can try www.mxv.co.uk, www.lcegroup.co.uk and www.ffordes.co.uk (though a bit pricey)

I managed to get a Pentax SMC - F 50mm 1:1.7 yesterday for £79

I am just waiting for someone to send me a link showing images taken with the lens and the K10d.

I have tried Pbase but cant really find any taken with the K10D.

I look forward to using it.

Sorry Pete, I haven't got any images... I've only used the f1.4 on the K10D. (The f1.7 is on the *ist-D at the moment). I only have images taken with the *ist-D. Believe me, it's a sharp lens.

Do be aware, though, that you have the opportunity of VERY shallow depth of fields. If you shoot wider than f4 (ie between f4 and f1.7) you will have to be absolutely critical in focusing. Shooting at f2 you have the possibility of getting someone's eyeball in focus but not their nose!
(That's why I usually use center or selective focus on the K10D rather than let the camera decide )

So, to test sharpness, shoot at about f8 to f11.

I suspect you'll get shots before I could post any anyway...

Thanks Matt,

What I need are two lenses for the following image taking which are second hand and available at a reasonable prices.

In your opinion the best older lens for landscape ??

In you opinion the best older lens for portriat ??

Having got the 50mm F 1:1.7 I think this will be ok for both but I am not to sure. Would a 28mm or lower be better for landscape wide angle.

I am also looking for a good AF 300 or 500mm. Any suggestions ??

I have also seen super images taken with the DA 16-45mm but this is a bit expensive at the moment. Can you recommend any similar old style lens.

Thanks again

PS. Just looked at your website Matt it's very good (maybe needs more images though)
