Price difference between Pentax and Samsung

While I was shopping for a flashgun I stumbled on the Samsung branded 360FGZ flashgun which was about 50 Euro's cheaper then the Pentax labeled one.
Will this price difference allso be the case with the samsung version of the K10D? If so one could save quite a bit of money when buying a "Pentax" camera...
If the price difference on a camera is about 50 Euro's I might decide to get the Pentax, but when the price difference is a 100 or more then I don't care about the badge anymore...

My personal opinion is that the residual value (the amount you'll get if you sell it) will be greater with the Pentax badged product.

For the same reason I might decide to by Volkswagon instead of Skoda, same car, very different prices.

True, but even that will change in the future. Here in the Netherlands it is not strange to see a Skoda Fabia fetch more money then a similar spec VW Polo. Eventhough the Skoda was cheaper when new. Maybe the VW vs. Skoda comparison isn't the best

It can have a real effect when selling. Certainly if you bought a Spotmatic with a SMC Takumat 105mm f2.8 it would be much more interesting than if it had a Soligor 105mm f2.8 Preset lens.

However, if you are interested in using rather than selling the Samsung GX 1L with 18-55 and 50-200 lenses at £399 looks pretty exciting.

the VW sharan holds its value and go for about £1000~£1500 more than the Ford Galaxy but then the Seat alhamba sells for about £1000 dearer than the Ford and £500 less the the VW

all three are the same vehicals with diffent badges but under the skin all the same

however knowing camera manufactures the to will have different pin locations on the flash and the lenses wont work the pins will be different

Not in this case ... Samsung TechWin have a stake in Pentax and the GX-1S GX-1L and GX10 are rebadged versions of Pentax models as are the flashes and lenses. There is still an amount of debate as to wether the Samsung lenses are SMC coated but since they are made in the same factory it would be fairly safe to assume that they are since having a seperate line for the Samsung lenses where they are not coated would cost Pentax more.

And the price difference is even more than you may think... I got the GX-1S twin lens kit for 399.

Jessops are listing the following :
K10D with 18-55mm lens ... 849.99 inc Vat listed as "coming soon"
GX10 with 18-55mm lens ... 599.99 inc Vat listed as "2-4 weeks"
GX10 with 18-55 and 50-200mm lenses ... 699.99 inc Vat listed as "2-4 weeks"

Sorry I'd rather have £250, in my pocket that the Pentax badge on my camera.

In the long term, the Pentax version will retain its second hand value better, so the £250 saving may be reduced in the overall life of the product.

But you basically "pays your money and takes your choice" and your logic is fine.

but that assumes you plan to sell the item, personally I tend to buy things and use them until they either break or are no longer fit for purpose. By the time I come to replace any DSLR I ever own its resale value will be negligible anyway.

The reason I will buy Pentax over Samsung is I have had some VERY bad experiences with Samsung after sales, as in there basically is none.

The RRP for the K10D and 18-55 lens is £749 - if Jessops are hoping to get £849 for this combo then they're trying to rip off unwitting consumers. I reckon what they'll do is sell them at £699, as most other retailers will, and have a big "£150 OFF" sticker next to them, to try and fool people that way.

A local retailer (not Jessops) sells binoculars, one of which they have at "£79.99 - £20 off (RRP £99.99)", when in fact the RRP is £79.00. Doesn't give you faith in their pricing or service, as far as I'm concerned.
