practical photography

i have just got this month practical photographer
first tim in a long while

1 dose any one on here get it
2 if so have you noticed the lack of pentax articals
3 would any of you be prepared to drop the editor a line or two pointing out the lack of this to promote the product
4 or am i just wasting my time

your wasting your time. I bought it for a while recently, the no of Pentax reviews was poor, iirc they slagged off the k3 for the no of lenses available, wtf!!!.

Think must get a big kickback from Nikon, as nearly all there tutorials and features use Nikon DSLRs.

They've always been the same, any Pentax reviews they did were always negative. I stopped buying it years ago because it was so biased towards canon and nikon. They also became very repetitive with their articles

Leica don't make many lenses they must be really poor then...

now come on i dont think any one is in that league
i have always classed Leica as the bently of all cameras

Funnily enough I was going to post on the same subject because not only is Pentax invisible in the magazine articles but also in all the ads too! Just to check I went through every page of the issue and there wasn't one single reference anywhere. Shame because I find it an interesting magazine and bought the DxO software as a result of the trial in the cd. I have just taken a subscription to Outdoor Photography because of the great articles and stunning images by professionals and amateurs alike; it concentrates less on technique and more on dedication and immersing yourself in the subject, if that makes sense.

i have sent the editer a email and i also put on there that i very much dought if any of his team would reply and if not i was very happy to post my findings on social media

Pentax is about as prominent as Fuji, Olympus, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, etc.
So you'd be expecting one Pentax article for every one of those, outside the top two manufacturers?

I don't know why photographers would want to buy a magazine that focuses purely on two brands, it's very narrow minded and not really a magazine I think I would want to read anyhow...

I don't know what the focus of the magazine is.

Most techniques are not brand specific, long exposure/HDR etc, so I guess you are talking about gear reviews mostly?

Generally, yes

I imagine the amount of brand-specific coverage in a commercial magazine is directly proportional to the amount of advertising bought over the longer term, for editorial content anyway. Add in the supply of actual cameras to use and its not surprising that the people involved get narrow minded. Some ' articles' are in fact actually 'advertorials', with their own marketing undertone.

I get fed up with the number of books or articles I see about flash techniques, with the inevitable Nikon only focus, when in fact the things being referred to are generic flash techniques equally applicable to the Canon and Pentax systems as well. What would make more sense for a useful article would be descriptions of the small operating differences between the systems, but this sort of helpful information is clearly beyond them.

I used to quite like Photography Monthly, which seemed to be fairly even-handed re camera marques. Heck, it even recommended the X-5 in one issue!

Unfortunately, I think I may have been their only reader because, about six months after I started buying it, it went (like most of the magazines that company has produced over the years) belly up.

I would't bother with them. You will not miss anything.
I stopped getting magazines a long time ago as they are not of any real interest to camera owners other than nikon and cannon. When this is raised, the answer is always the same. They concentrate on nikon and cannon as "the majority of photographers own these brands" and, no doubt, because those two companies are their major advertisers.
