Postage from Switzerland??

This might be a reasonable lens but the postage seems a tad high don't you think link

It will be cheaper to fly to Switzerland, pick up the lens, enjoy a few days holiday and fly back again, and still have change

It's those stupid french ideas again ...

He probably typed $ 38,00 meaning thirty eight dollars but the website ignored the comma and interpreted it as $3800. He he followed convention and used a dot for the decimal point and typed $ 38.00 it would have been fine.

Ebay should really deal properly with this sort of internationalisation issue

Not in my industries - communications or aeronautical operations. I deal with customers throughout Europe including Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, &c &c.

Various international standards dictate that it should be a "Point" or full stop.

Nevertheless it is normal here to use a comma where in the UK/US a point is used, and a point where a comma is used - so 1.000.000,99 rather than 1,000,000.99.
Our bank uses that, as does the Windows calculator.

I could add The Netherlands to my list too ... In recent dealings with major corporations out there it had to be POINT to separate $ & ¢ or £ p or € & ¢ ...

Other partners were specifically reminded by the Dutch Company of the convention that must be adhered to:

1,000,000.00 or 1 000 000.00

Maybe major international corporations use it (though the major international banks here don't for domestic accounts), but your average European whether Dutch Germans Swiss or Spanish will use commas instead of points and vice versa.
In the e-bay advert though the seller has just filled in the postage wrongly, since the comma is in the wrong place.

Happened to me once when I put something on evilbay for sale.
Used point instead of comma or the other way around. Missed it on the preview and there it was. Same amount. $ 38xx. You can not correct it but add a extra message to explain your mistake.
