Post Processing Challenge #5 - -CosmoCaixa

June 2009 saw my first and only trip to Barcelona. Fabulous potential but a terrible experience for several reasons. The one big ray of light for me was 'CosmoCaixa', the fabulous science museum.

Sadly I'd slumped into 'snapshot' mode and made a mess of my pictures there. This is one I thought had some potential thanks to the geometry, light and shadow and the people in frame, but I've never really got to playing around with it. Now here's your chance to prove me right!

I'll kick things of with this version

Downloaded the PEF and converted to TIFF in RawThreapee

Opend the TIFF in Photoshop CS3, straightend the verticals and then cropped carefully to keep the people in the bottom L/H coner. Then Cloned in the gaps left after the straightening.
Duplicated the layer and desaturated, added a layer mask and painted almost all of it out except the bottom R/H conrner to reduce the orange/brown colour from what I think is a light
Added a Curves adjustment layer and tweaked the individual R.G.B. Channels to get a cross processed effect and the another layer with a Deep Yellow photofilter at 20% opacity to emphasis the CP effect.
Finally another layer to draw the light grey fill area and the frame to make it look like an already framed print.

I know I am the only entry but I was wondering if you could perhaps give me some feedback on the image processing, both good and bad?

Also I thought that one of us could post another image for processing, unless anyone has any objections?

I think it'd be unfair for me to offer much feedback as I'm no expert, but here goes: cross processing predates my photography so the colours frankly look a bit odd to me but the bold green stripe of the water does make you look closer at what the attraction is. I also think you've done a great job of straightening it up, cloning where necessary and extracting what detail there was.

It would have been silly of me not to try processing my own pic after all this time, so here's my effort:

As the winner it's certainly your turn to put up the next challenge. Before that, any feedback from the rest as to why the image didn't grab people enough to give it a whirl? Hopefully we can learn from this and not crash and burn again!

I didn't take part as I'm off on a business trip tomorrow so would not have time to choose a shot and make sure it can be downloaded.

Nothing wrong with your shot, I think. The challenge is the same whether you like a shot or not, really. Lot's of cropping opportunities and some other PP that I could imagine.

It could be a general lack of time (I know that I suffer from that) or too many shots on the hard disk waiting for PP (true for me as well).

You haven't done anything wrong, just bad timing, I suppose.
