Not at that price
I should point out I watched one of those auctions (the £431 IIRC) and it was an older model Bigma ie; not the DG version, dont know about the other but those seem awfully cheap, I would have expected an EX DG to fetch at least £500-£550 if not more, although the newer HSM version will have made a dent in the value of its older sibling so I could be way off. might be worth looking round to see what dealers have and judging a price from there.

The DG version will produce a smaller image circle so you cant really say they are optically identical unless you mean in terms of quality.
Perhaps the HSM has knocked the price down:
Still, you can argue values till the cows come home, at the end of the day it all comes down to what someone wants and how much someone is willing to pay.

hmmmm... not sure about that, as far as I understand "DG" means full-frame compatible in Sigma-speak.The DG version will produce a smaller image circle...
The only difference between the EX DG and non-DG versions, apart from the look, might be an additional coating on the rear element to avoid reflections from the sensor (which wasn't an issue with film).
EDIT: actually there is another difference. The chips are not the same, so a possible front/back focusing problem will be more difficult to correct at a Sigma service center (I know fron experience). Not really a probable issue with the Bigma, due to the small aperture, that said. I had a massive focusing problem with my EX non-DG 100-300/4 (frontfocusing at the long end, backfocusing at the short end), sent it to Sigma France, I was lucky they had an old chip lying around (that's what they told me at any rate :shock so were able to replace it for free - I would have had to pay 200€ for a more recent version had it been a DG.

DG means it can be used on FF and DC means it cannot.
I don't think the new OS version should put a dent in the old model prices that much .. after all we have OS anyway, the HSM is nice but I can live without it and the new version is over a grand with second hand lenses nowhere to be seen.
I used one on the 7D last year and picture quality wise I could see no difference and would still expect £500+ for mine should I sell it.
I should think it will come into its own on the K-5 and a with a bit of sunlight.

Thanks Enrico. I'll check with SRS.
£579 is a stretch too far at the moment Mike, but much appreciate you podting. I reckon I can recoup maybe £200 selling bits and pieces, so I've told the boss it'll cost me about another £200. While I'll get away with a bit of rounding if I'm slightly over budget, she'll round £579 straight up to £600, and no amount of ironing boards will let me get away with that
If I don't get one straight away, I'll just have to be patient

I'd rather buy from someone on here with good feedback, than buy from ebay (might save a few quid too through no ebay fees).
So, anyone selling their Sigma 50-500?
