I like these very much... there's a defiance here that I particularly like, a "this is me"-ness to them...

Number 2 is superb ... lovely subject and lighting/DOF is just perfect.

Think the light on 3 is a bit harsh.

The second is a delightful portrait, but not because it was shot on film, it would have been much the same shot on digital. It's delightful because it's a superb bit of photography of a lovely, serene person.

The digital gear continues to gain dust

Can you put your finger on what makes that so? There must be something in the film process that inspires you in some way?

Wonderful, especially no.2. The shallow DOF and indefinable 'filmic' quality gives these an edge. When you consider the bucks people spend on their digital kit, it's quite shocking what you can achieve on 'cheap' fim SLRS. Do you get a sense that people are more intrigued / less intimidated when you are using a classic film camera?

put simply yes i believe the film portra 160 gives these potraits the edge over digital. I love how it renders the colours. The blacks are actually black if you understand me. They have density. With my digital gear all the shots look the same tone and the tendency is to edit with the same white balance etc.


Yes pentaxoohile people do relax with the older cameras. im using the 50mm 1.7 remember and that means getting very close. Doesn't seem to bother the ladies with antiquated equipment. I've shot tlr cameras which really draws people in

No2 for me too really superb shot, it without a doubt has that film look to it never tried potra before will have to give it a go! may i ask how you scan your images.

I scan everything at 3200DPI using digital ice
