Portrait Lens Advice

Posted 24/11/2014 - 18:48 Link
I would like to hear what would be a great lens for my film camera (MZ-6) for doing my street portraits.

For a year now Ive used the K-5 and DA 50 135mm but want something around the 85 - 100 range for film stuff.

Anyone who has experience of using the M 85mm F2 or Samyang 1.4 please let me know!

Cheers

The SMC Pentax-M 85mm f/2 lens was never one of my favourites, I found the SMC Pentax-M 100mm f/2.8 to be much better. If you can get one of those, or the more expensive A version, then buy it like a shot. Lovely rendering.

My favourite portrait lens from my film days was the Sigma 105mm EX DG APO macro, available for Pentax also I believe.

Another vote for the M100 2.8

I've had mine since about 1978 and I wouldn't let it go

I was looking for an affordable portrait lens, looking at the M85 and Samyang 85mm too, and was offered a K85, its a lovely piece of glass, even better on 35mm film.
Its sharp enough from f1.8 and super sharp stopped down a bit. I got mine off here (lennybloke) for £250 IIRC, a bargain!

Its nice and compact, a LOT smaller than the Samyang 85mm and other f1.4 lenses.

And size compared to my K55 f1.8 (which itself is quite small)
