I have a big 72mm Circular Polarizer filter that I was thinking of selling as I have not used it in 10+ years.

But I noticed when cleaning it it has flecks in it, almost like the coating has come off.

Is this what has happened? The coating come of and is it worth selling it or binning it?

Well now you've told us all you might as well bin it,

My four month old Hoya HD circular polariser has flecks in it too. They don't seem to affect the photos though.

No such thing with my 8 months old B+W MRC and 2 months old B+W Käsemann MRC.
Hoya probable use other coatings and such but still are you sure it is okay?

Yes it's fine. I have no problems with it at all, except I won't be able to sell it.
It is always kept in it's case unless I'm using it and I have no idea when the flecks appeared, or what caused them, but as long as it functions I'm not too worried. I could probably send it back of course but it's more hassle than it is worth.

I ain't gonna use it again. Seems to still work ok!

Glad to hear that Gwyn, that you have no problems.

Delamination occurs mostly when there is stress between the two materials. it might be that the glass of the filter expands more then the coating when it heats up. Not usre if that's the problem it can just as easily be something else like manufacutring malfunction.
