Please help

I bought a Porst Color Reflex Auto 55mm f1.2 from ebay Germany 8 days ago and it was delivered today. The lens is fine but when I took picture I realised that pictures come out the same no matter what the aperture is. Also, when I press the green button for metering, the shutter speed remains same for all apertures f1.2-22. I am showing two pictures here one at f1.2 and the other at f16. The aperture ring closes and opens properly.Could you please tell me what's wrong. Should I return it?
Just checked auto mode (The lens is manual) and even then the camera fires. It seems like the camera cannot detect the lens properly. Its a K fit lens so I am not using any adapters.

Make sure that the camera is in Manual mode and that you have set the camera to enable using aperture ring (for man lenses)

Hi Daniel, I tried with all modes. The lens even works in auto mode. My Pentax M lenses do not work in auto mode. Also I changed the "using aperture ring" option in menu setting to "prohibited" just to check and yes even then the shutter works. I feel like that the camera cannot detect the lens or I dont know.

Is the aperture stuck wide open??

Its more likely to be a lens fault than camera fault, stop the lens all the way diwn off camers and work the aperture leaver to see if the blades open...

No, that's why I can't figure out what's the problem. Aperture opens and closes properly like my Pentax M 50mm f1.7. I am using Pentax K-5. I just sent a message to the ebay seller. Last time our conversation was not good since his replies were google translated from german to english. I will contact ebay if he does not communicate stating the reason. Ebay item description stated that the lens did not have any major problem.

Hi, Cabstar, I just got the problem. I closed the aperture all the way down and as soon as i mounted it to my camera the aperture opened wide. but after mounting if i change the aperture it stays open. is there any solution?

I've got the same lens and haven't had any problems with it.
It works the same as an 'M' Series.

Just check the following..
Aperture closes down as you turn the aperture ring from f1.2
to f22?

With the lens at f22 pushing the aperture lever should open up to
f1.2 ....... slide finger off quickly and it should immediately
close back to f22... If it doesn't do it quickly it's sticky.

The aperture lever top should be level with the protective
fence. If a Canon owners had it he may have cut it down.

It should open up. Try a 1 second exposure at f22 on a tripod and
stand in front of the camera to see if the aperture closes
down for 1 second.

Hi, i tried what you said. I tried with even slower shutter speed but the aperture does not close down. I am new to photography. Is the lens faulty?

Have you changed that back?

You are probably better putting the Pentax M 50mm f1.7 back
on and making sure that everything works with that lens. If
it does the Porst must be faulty.

When the aperture ring setting is set to prohibited my Pentax M does not work, i mean the shutter does not work. But shutter works when its set to permitted. Also Pentax M works in all apertures. So I think Porst is not communicating with my camera. If there is no solution I have to return it but thats just extra hassle and postage fees will go to drain if the seller does not pay. The seller has not replied me yet. I dont have proper adapter for Nikon otherwise i could try with my brothers Nikon camera

There's only the aperture lever that communicates with
the camera nothing else.

Is this the one that sold for £131? If it is I would
keep it and just use it wide open and see if it rectifies
itself. It's worth at least £100 more than that and it
wouldn't cost that much to get it serviced.

Just tried with teleconverter and macro extension tube and aperture works. Any suggestion please? Yes it says £131 on ebay but paypal converted 153+11 euro for postage as £147. £147 was too good for a f1.2 lens I know that's why i am double minded whether i should return it or not.

I have a few old K mount lenses. They date from about 1980 and have no electrical contacts. From what I can see about your lens on line, it looks as if your lens is similar.

The only ones that stop down on my K5 are 'A' lenses, ie they have an 'A' on the aperture ring after the largest f number. Lenses that are not A lenses will normally work in the way you have described for the lens you have just bought, ie wide open, but there is a workaround,
