Plaza Shoot

Had exam leave today so after about 3hrs of my controlled GCSE Art mock exam I went down to a nice block of buildings (With the Plaza Cinema situated on them), just past a subway (where I also ate lunch ) with my mate Arthur, and we poked around a bit. We then got questioned by a "security for sefton" guy, (fake police) in the park, funnn.

The shots are in no particular order, with almost no editing outside of cameraRAW (So basically, contrast).

My favourites are "King", "Pleasureland", "Branch", and "Kirov". Feel free to argue otherwise

I tried to stay away from making them all black and white, and sqaure. It kinda worked Haha. (My last few pictures have been..)

Shot from the waist, manual focus. She had quite a character, and I liked the placement of the pigeon and workman (with reflection).

Branch
Comment Image

This seems quite surreal to me, and looks like artificial lighting has been used, but its all natural

False Escape.
Comment Image

I like the composition of this personally, although if the door wasnt in as much shade, it mightve been better, thoughts?

King
Comment Image

Noise due to high ISO =/

3:1
Comment Image

Odd one out? Worst of the shoot I think. =/

Untitled.
Comment Image

Focus was slightly off, but it highlights the line of moss running across.

Pleasureland
Comment Image

Focused in wrong area, but I like the fact you can see the street through the window, and quite sharply.

Kirov
Comment Image

I am very proud of this last image; taken as it was found.

Feel free to ask any questions whatsoever, suggest improving techniques and new names (cause mine are terrible)

All shots (I think) taken on Av - F/4, Spot Metering for a few. 800 ISO, which was stupid, and I only realised afterwards (Hence noise in a few), 50mm.

Thanks for viewing!

15
16 in a month though

Thanks to all for the comments, hearing such really pushes me to go out and shoot more, especially in this style (I find it easy for myself to walk down the beach, its getting a little used up now)

Hi - Great lunchtime snaps .

Best for me are pleasureland and kirov - but I'd have cropped out or cloned out the grafitti doodle above kirov 'keep clear' and on the pleasureland door, makes them too busy and distracting to me.
Don't like 'centre', boring and got a greenish cast - 2.99 is good but I'm one for more simple pics and a sharp cropped pic of the woman looking in and the guys reflection wouldav worked for me. Branch and untitled I like but dont see any message in them, false escape is ok but I'd have exposed for the door and let us see the floor. King is cool and a real cool shot. 3:1 is good but maybe cropped just the bottom 2 windows.

Hope you dont mind the critque - just my thoughts after a long day of DIY and a few ciders.

Gonna try and snap a pic for the comp tomorrow - looking forward to it .

Yeah, centre was just kinda, an average shot of the building. I think I did quite well considering how boring the building looks though hahah

I took another shot like 3:1, with three windows, two with covers, Ill see what its like, and ill try cropping £2.99. Problem is, I already cropped it down to about 60% of the original size

So you are 15? Right, I can see the pigs fly right over my head

Seriously though, I love this series. Even the first one I like. You certainly have a good eye for composition.
I think the noise in "KING" is not ruining the image (at least at that size). You probably could add some "film grain" to it.

This series certainly brings back fond memories of six years living in England...

Keep on shooting (but don't forget your GCSE's over it!)

My favourites have to be Centre, Branch & King. My reasons for these are simple:

Centre - This shot reminds me of a book cover I once saw whilst studying Graphic Design at college. I like the composition, making a very ordinary boring building into a modern abstract artwork.

Branch - Although not the most narrative shot, I like the lighting and the irony that a window has been bricked up to make way for a little air brick. Nice colouring and textures too.

King - I always love seeing these kind of shots. It always makes me think that the paint has been aged on purpose for such an interesting texture.

I now know I have to notice more when out looking for photo ops. You've made the kind of buildings and objects that we all see on a daily basis into works of art. Very nice work.

I walk past this building to school everyday, and think to myself, I must bring my camera in sometime.

I pretty much look at everything that way now, composing shots as I walk round places
