Howard, I don't think they advertise it much. Most people just whizz past on the main oad to the coast.
The house (Victorian) is used for various courses (always fancied a photography week there - might learn something!) But the garden is open to all and, as you see, particularly lovely in spring.

It would make a nice square shot, Emma, but I wanted the out of focus blooms to draw the eye down to the sharp ones. That's my excuse anyway, and I'm sticking to it!

Number six is excellent but I would crop just a little off the top so that the OOF batch of blooms is at the top mirroring the in focus group at the bottom. At the moment there is too much going on in the OOF area. IMO anyway.

I like the shot of the steps Andrew, definitely my favourite from the set. Great textures in the stone and moss, and I like the matching ferns.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad you found something to like here. The place means a lot to us as we've spent lots of sunny (and the occasional wet) afternoons there.
Ian, my Welsh pronunciation is an abomination, I tend to do it phonetically, which is inevitably wrong. Howard, Huw, Gareth et al. would no doubt blanch to hear it! I've no idea what it measn but welsh placenames almost invariably mean something (unlike English ones) so I suspect something like "Place-in-a-hollow-where-there-are-lots-of-green and-mainly-damp-ferns"!
But what a great language where so many words can be formed without using vowels, New Zealanders shoud love it since they only use one vowel when they speak!

Literal translation is "Palace(or mansion) of the gap/pass"
as for pronounciation "bwlch" - "bull" + "ch" as in loch, will get you reasonably near.

Here's a cropped version of the yellow azaleas as suggested by Emma and Kris... The clipped stamens on the right really annoy me. Clumsy framing; poor camera work. Robert Mapplethorpe would never have made the mistake!
