Latest of the P.W., nesting in the Virginia creeper next to our front door.....

A bit of time off for a stretch & some feather maintenance.

Heavy crop, K7 + 100dfa macro(!).

I feel a 55-300 coming on......Comment Image

I think they would make excellent shots with a longer lens - they are interesting 'poses' and, having tried to get decent shots of pied wagtails in the past, I know how tricky it is (they are very good - like most birds - of being just that little bit too far away...) but if you can get these with 100mm lens then I reckon you might get some great stuff with a 300mm or longer

Biggest problem here looks to be the shutter speed, the fence is reasonably sharp but obviously the bird is moving too quick (as they do)

Is it trying to do a Swan Lake Ballet in the bottom shot, or maybe it thinks its skating

excellent shots but all are too soft. They need to be sharper

you defo need a longer lens
Gareth how can you say these are excellent shots? They are blurred and usually the whole point of a bird photograph is to see the ghastly thing clearly.

Well exposed and possibly focussed but excellent shots I'm sorry they are not being fatally compromised.

Thanks, all.

I offer images up for comments & criticism, most of the time knowing what those criticisms will probably be, since I've made them myself.
I still post them, however, since I do find encouragement in both comments & crit., looking to improve my technique & ,possibly, upgrade my kit, given my budget limitations.

Finally, I like birds. I like bird pictures.
I think one of the "points" of photographing these beautiful creatures is to reveal aspects of their behaviour.

Chacun a son oiseau!

Regards,

Roger.

Quite so. I didn't primarily mean to be negative and discouraging regarding your photograph so much as express surprise that anyone thought it excellent which I think you didn't knowing it was flawed.

Have to echo Mike and Spider I'm afraid. It is certainly interesting behaviour you've captured, but unfortunately that's the only good bit
