Picasa EXIF

I have had some inconsistency with EXIF data and Picasa. Some images will keep it and others have it dumped for no apparent reason whatsoever. It is unreadable in the browser and can't be read if the image is copied. This is somewhat annoying as I want all my Images to be tagged with my details at all times and I want the EXIF to be readable by others.

Some of my images have the EXIF intact while others have no EXIF at all. I've looked at. Anyone know why this is and if it can be fixed?

Hmmm, interesting. I just wanted to pen an answer saying that I have the same Problem with Picasa and EXIF. Just went in to Picasa to check and on the newer shots this problem does not exist anymore : :

I do remember a recent update of Picasa, I'm using version 2.7 build 36.60,0

I just checked some shots a bit older (I'm at work so don't have that many shots on my computer here) and most of them do show EXIF. Some show "No EXIF available" but they show time and aperture. These are taken with my MF Kiron lens, somehow it seems that the camera make and type are also not making it to the EXIF.

So I'm expecting some Picasa problem here that has been solved recently. Having said that, I seem to remember that the EXIF from shots developed in SilkyPix did not show up correctly (i.e. complete) in Photoshop. But I need to check at home...

Well,

just checked your Flora album and the Critters one and some pics in other albums. All do show EXIF (once you click on "more info".
Same is true for the example you quoted from my China album (they are my wife's photos, though).

In my albums on some shots EXIF is missing because I did a "Save for WEB" from Photoshop before uploading, which does strip the EXIF. I do that since for some forums there is a size limit for the file and "Save as..." ends up always a bit bigger than shown in the dialogue.

no wonder that the JPGs are getting bigger when including the EXIF. How do you get all this information out?

I have recently noticed that, within Picasa2 - the application, EXIF data is displayed for JPG's but not PEF's or DNG's.

Does that tally with your originals?

EDIT: Missing EXIF data from Pentax PEF's is well documented in the Picasa discussion forums. It's been missing even from the very early DSLR's, and many others including my Fuji F810.

I only use the web album, not the program as Lightroom is far more capable and produces much better results. Exports are in JPEG and uploaded on the web, never even seeing Picasa's executable.
