Photoshop RAW

Hello Folks,
Can any one please explain; When I open a pic in PS camera RAW,I get a window stating that "camera RAW requires resolution 1024x768 and my pic is set lower,do I want to continue?"
Please what's this about;Should I continue or will I do damage if I do?
If so, what next ?

The 1024 x 768 refers to your screen resolution.(I'll guess)
I can't imagine a raw file with that sort of pixel dimensions.
You are trying to open a raw/dng file right? As a reference:
A 6 megapixel camera produces raw files with the dimensions: 3002 x 2000.

This will almost certainally refer to the screen resolution. Unless you are using a very small or very old monitor/laptop then you should be able to increase this.

What is your computer/monitor/laptop &c?

Monitor is Samsung Syncmaster 206BW.2ms 3000:1
Computer is AMD Athlon 3600 2G ram
All this kit is about a year old.(I'm hoping to update soon to the latest
windows operating system & increase my harddrive to 2 T.bite & my RAM to 5Gig.)
I am opening from a Jpeg best taken with a K20D.

Why would you use Adobe Camera Raw to open a jpeg to process?
Just open it in PS,forget ACR and you should be good to go.
Or....Am I missing something here :

The latest issue of Amateur Photographer (5 Sept) suggest doing this as a method to correct JPEG white balance, methinks it`s just another way to crack a nut.

Tried opening it in PS;Same outcome!No difference. It's me, something I am doing wrong or not doingAny idea's? (other than finding a new hobby)

Let's just check the resolution of your monitor.

Right click on the desktop (anywhere not on an icon).
Click 'Properties'
Click the 'Settings' tab
What does it say under 'Screen Resolution'?

If it says something like 1024x600, move the slider to the right until it says something like 1680x1050, as that's the native resolution of your monitor.

If it's not that, I don't know what it is.

Are you trying to correct the white balance on a small, already-reduced JPEG? If so, you would be better off going to the original, and working on that.

Couple of bits of general information that might help:-

The native resolution on your monitor after a quick google is 1680 x 1050. If you do not have your computer set to this resolution, you are going to see poorer image quality. Follow Dan's advice above to do that.

Do not upgrade your RAM to 5GB unless you are running a 64 bit version of Windows as it is pointless. If you are running a 32 bit version of Windows (if you're not sure or do not have a clue what I'm talking about, you will have a 32 bit OS!) the maximum it can address is 4GB of RAM in total. This includes any memory, so if you have a graphics card with 512MB memory, the most usable ram you will have is 3.5GB and more likely less.

A general advice on LCD resolution: Always set the resolution to the monitor's native resolution. Anything less will produce a (slightly) blurred picture:

15": 1024x768
17": 1280x1024
19": 1280x1024
20": 1600x1200

These are all for 4:3 monitors. 16:9 monitors have different settings, so please consult your manual. (E.g. a 24" 16:9 monitor has 1920x1200)
