Photographic "BOOT SALES"???

Many moons ago when I was just getting into photography there were camera "FAIRS"??? selling all sorts of mainly used gear. There was one at Wolverhampton and another in a village just outside of Cambridge. Do these camera fairs still exist? and if so where and when? I never see any adverts for them any more. I met people who came from eastern europe with bags of money to buy used cameras and equipment to take home and sell. This was long before digital arrived and film was king. There was all sorts of collectables and useables on many small stalls.

There's one at Boston Spa, near Wetherby on 13th November.

It's not a big thing though, just in a village hall.

I think there are others but I know not where!

Edit: Here's another at Wolverhampton Race Course: http://www.wolverhamptoncamerafair.co.uk/
next one 16th October

Ah, must be loads! At Frome on 30th October:

Thanks John. Just a bit of nostalgia. The one at Wolverhampton race course was always quite a big one. It used to be a bit of fun and I picked up a couple of things. (As I said back in the day) How did you get the info? I know "GOOGLE"

i remember going to these many years ago - there was one regularly in Tolworth but the amount and quality of Pentax stuff they had was in my experience a bit disappointing with little recourse to the seller if things went wrong. I suspect eBay and online stores such as ffords (with good images of whats for sale and excellent return policies) have pretty much put an end to them.

Those were my thoughts exactly but it seems John found out different.

We went to camera fairs for a few years, but eventually found that the same stuff and the same people were just endlessly rotating, with very few new things appearing. The exception was when somebody started selling a huge collection of Exacta SLRs and accessories, which must have been amazing for Exacta collectors.

As for Pentax, too many badly looked after lenses and bodies, but occasionally.....something magic!
Best regards, John

Vic, instead of having to travel around, you might find some interest in exploring here from the comfort of your chair.

Cheers.

Hi Philip. I'm not interested in buying anything. I was just curious as to if the camera fairs still took place.
For a collector or someone who wants to dabble in film that is a fantastic site to pick up a camera.

Stan. Try again. On the site that MrB. Philip put up the connection for. I just had a look and there's at least 4 pages if not more some have lenses fitted.

You're right, Stan, the Pentax brand button is a blank. However, if you browse through the other categories (cameras, lenses, etc.) or just type Pentax in the search box, and you'll see loads of stuff!

Cheers.

Hi, I've bought from Keith Rock in the past. This is the page I have saved in my bookmarks for lenses and accessories that i browse from time to time. http://www.rockycameras.com/pentax-21-c.asp

The Pentax FILM camera bodies are listed on their own http://www.rockycameras.com/pentax--k-fit-bodies-17-c.asp He often doesn't have any digital to link to.

Not the most professional of web sites but fun. Keith has given me extra bits when I've ordered filters etc. Quality does vary as with all such old stuff. The more you buy the more discount I recall.

Unfortunately the descriptions are always inadequate & communications when you have a problem are non-existent. I've had 2 orders with small things missing
Though I must say the prices are low enough to bring me back despite this.
