Hi Louise
Good to see the support already given here
Im no expert but 'in my opinion' people who make derisory comments and make personal attacks etc are 'often' in some way trying to make up for the own deficiencies so my advice would be to 'privately' view them as a negative nobody (or similar) to whom you pay no attention and this may help avoid them having any impact on you - I may be wrong though
I don't like making negative comments or treating people differently for any reason to be honest and cant undertsand those who do
Well done on your pictures etc
Another point is that when you display a photo anywhere there can be numerous reasons for doing so and as such if someone doesn't like what you show, so what let them think what they like.
Cheers

York Minster is superb but, like the city, is teeming with tourists.I would love to go to York and see the cathedral, I may get the chance in July if I am lucky
If you are in the area consider the alternative of Beverley Minster. Not as grand as York but some say the architecture is better and it is likely to be nearly empty.
St Mary's at the other end of town is a lovely church with good misericords and a carving which was the inspiration for Lewis Carroll's white rabbit.
Parts of the town are also worth a picture or two.

York Minister sounds lovely but it's tourists getting in the way of a shot which is a pain. We are only staying a weekend so we'll probably won't get to see everything. I am going with a disabled group and they like their fast food and theme parks. Told we were going out for dinner once on a day trip and ended up at a MacDonalds of all places! The organiser said why arn't you eating anything and I said because I hate junk food, and have no wish to eat it. Not being rude but it's up to the individual if they want to put unhealthy crap into their bodies.AuraTodd wrote:

I think that your diagnosis may well be right, but as for paying them no attention - that's not so easy when the person is your boss!Im no expert but 'in my opinion' people who make derisory comments and make personal attacks etc are 'often' in some way trying to make up for the own deficiencies so my advice would be to 'privately' view them as a negative nobody (or similar) to whom you pay no attention and this may help avoid them having any impact on you

Years ago the director of a large organisation where I worked left to take up a plum job elsewhere. The new director had just such a personality problem, and within a month had demoralised most of the organisation. Whenever he spoke to a staff member he had a compulsion to make some kind of 'put-down' remark. Most of us were badly affected by this constant denigration of our work, and I know of several very capable professionals who virtually gave up trying and just drifted along. They turned up for work, but did little. Then we realised that none of us were being singled out for criticism; the man was just spreading his demoralising influence everwhere, like a scatter-gun. When the staff realised that, we all cheered up and resumed productive work, while despising the new boss. He nearly destroyed a famous organisation.
Apologies - getting badly off-topic, and nothing (directly) to do with Pentax photography
Be strong.

I've got an educational psychologists report that says I'm severely dyslexic... Specifically defined as suffering from a developmental form of dyslexia.
Essentially, my reading and writing is slow unless I'm reading and writing a lot. I read all the time but if I don't read for say a month the first half of the next book I pick up will take days... The second half will take hours if I just keep at it..
I'm 33, hated (every second of) high school (where my dyslexia was put down to non-conformity) , left with no GCSEs to speak of but graduated with a solid 2:1 in English Literature (BA Hons) last summer...
Keep at it... Do something everyday... Don't let the ba*t**ds grind you down...

my depression was helped by a very good councilor rather than drugs,
I couldn't eat a bag of crisps without being quizzed by well meaning people about what I should and shouldn#t be eating which after a couple of days got to be annoying
My mum has type 2 diabetes and I help her all I can. Winstone Churchill called his depression 'the black dog'. I call mine 'the bitch'. In those days you couldn't talk about it and he was a great prime minister, photography is a good way to make it stay away. he did painting and was very good he could have sold his work and been a great artist as well.
Stephen Fry is very brave to admit his illness, I have a wicked sense of humor, people wouldn't know I get low at times.
