my tuppence worth, as someone who posts the occasional photo, is that as it's a photography forum, it's nice to see photos here.
You're correct in point out the size of some, and it is a little irksome to have to keep scrolling across to read the text (I post small..ish images BTW) but some of the images that are posted here have been truly incredible. I rarely follow links out of the forum, and probably miss many equally good images because of this, so it's nice to see them here.
I'd be all in favour of a critique section, or simply a gallery board.. I don't always want to comment on people's shots, but just look at them.
I certainly think that to be offered constructive criticism, and to offer advice, we have to be able to see what been taken. The key word is "constructive". Just having a place to heap praise on a poster, if their image is particularly good, would be nice.. nothing wrong with that either..
At the end of the day, it's all about photography, and somewhere in there, there'll undoubtedly be photographs. It's always nice to have your contemoraries/peers say something nice about the work you've done.. especially in a nice friendly forum like this, where you respect the opinion of others, whether beginner or pro..
Righty Ho, off to Yorkshireland now for a few days.. 4.5gb of cards.. so I might even take one worth posting when I get back.. my tuppence worth, as someone who posts the occasional photo, is that as it's a photography forum, it's nice to see photos here.

We intend to redo the Pentax User site in a few months when we've finished a couple of other projects. We will look at adding dedicated Pentax User gallery at that point which will allow critique.

............Photos for technical issues are a different matter altogether and should certainly be allowed wherever they are relavent, though personally I would like to see an 800x600 size limit, having to scroll to read the text puts me off reading a thread.
I hope that this size limit will be taken up, if nothing else.............Photos for technical issues are a different matter altogether and should certainly be allowed wherever they are relavent, though personally I would like to see an 800x600 size limit, having to scroll to read the text puts me off reading a thread.

I tend to use this forum for
a) information on what is happening in the photographic world
b) help and advice on various technical aspects of both hardware and software
c) exchange of views on a range of photographic matters.
Not surprisingly, therefore, I find the intrusion of photgraphs into the discussion/debate sections a bit intrusive.
By the same token, I find long winded debates intrusive when looking at photographs.
So I am all for a separate area dedicated to photgraphs. Indeed. taking a leaf from an earlier comment, have three areas -
one for just sharing
one for general (ie soft-ish) critique
one for hard detailed criticism
Oh yes, and keep the size down.
Now I need some advice!

As for the OP I think we definately need a seperate photo critique section on the forum, possibly only short term posting as well.

I have only recently found out how to put photos on this site by joining another site; now I am too SCARED to show you my 'first attempts at Press Photography with the K10D' in case I get told off ( and they are only 500 pixels wide) so I put one on the ePHOTOzine site and I don't know how you make these 'link' things, so if you're interested go to ePHOTOzine and look in the Pentax Gallery for my Irish Dancers I took on Saturday for St Patrick's Day.

To illustrate the point of this thread. I've seen about as much of Jenna as I care to. Multiple postings of the same image, edited or not, in differnet forums must be discouraged, if not banned. Perhaps abusers/misusers should be locked out of posting pics for a period of time.
Perhaps members should simply link to their own site for critiques.
Whilst we should encourage new members to be active on this forum, they should be encouraged to do some basic research of their own rather than asking questions like " what's the difference between Silkypix Free . . . and Silkypix paid for versions " and " what's the price of" etc.

BTW: whats the difference Eh! Ah!.... forget it, I'll just go over to depressing review and ask, see if I can get the thread passed 100 replies

if you end up with a silly long url which is going to go off the end of the screen and cause scroll bar irritation you can also do this
[ url=click]http://www.ephotozine.com/gallery/showlargepic.cfm?photoid=846825]click here[/url]
just without the space at the begining, and this happens:
