Photo' gallery...

Please forgive if this is either in the wrong place or not allowed. I have just uploaded my first proper DSLR photograph. I would be grateful if some of you can 'pass judgement' upon it's worth, or otherwise. If it is 'garbage', then please feel free to say as much. It's not much good to me if you are being patronising because I am a novice. Kind regards.

If you want to have a thread for comments I would suggest you link the picture here as the gallery isn't the right place for a discussion.

Just to recap then. This is my first effort at DSLR albeit taken with the 'autopilot' on. It was taken at around 08:15 today. It appears 'as is', that is to say completely unedited, straightened or cropped.

I would appreciate it if some of you would 'pass judgement' upon it. If you think that it is 'garbage' then I would rather that you say that and not patronise a complete DSLR novice.

I'm fairly new to this site and I've only recently got a DSLR. I'm no expert when it comes to making a judgement about other people's photographs, so I won't comment. I've been entering the weekly competitions on this site and that forces you to take a photograph on a particular topic and then you get the judges opinion of your input. You could try that for some honest feedback.

I cant comment greatly because I havent been taking pics for long myself, but - looks like a pretty good first time out to me! What do you think? It is important that you like your photos yourself.

Hello Clare, I don't think that it is too bad. The colours are as I remember on taking the 'pic'. I can't see what can be done to improve thess type of photographs. You can't change your position or you will lose the convenient space that I found for the morning sun.

Perhaps others have the knowledge to enlighten me.

Hi Gedski, the shot is not bad, has some impact because of the vast dynamic range between the dark and light.

Overall it isnt the most interesting composition but I'm sure you will be posting more intersting subjects. look forward to seeing them.

Hi Gedski, I commented on this picture in the Gallery. In terms of the exposure it is spot-on, but it's not the most interesting subject. I'm sure with practice your pictures will come on in leaps and bounds. I find the technical aspects of getting the exposure & focus right are the easy bits - I would suggest once you have learned the basics of using the camera you focus more on the compositional side of the pictures as getting this right makes the difference between ordinary and exceptional. Not that I've taken many exceptional shots but I think I can recognise it in other people's pictures!
