Ah sorry! It's fermented Pear juice - like Cider but made with Pears rather than Apples!

Those who can remember the fifties (nobody admits to remembering the sixties) will recall Babycham, the "genuine champagne perry".
About eighty percent of the British advertising budget went on that, Mateus Rose, and Wincarnis tonic wine.
Ugh, glug, ugh.

If you want to sample the real thing, then come to Herefordshire.

Quite right, that's where this stuff comes from!If you want to sample the real thing, then come to Herefordshire.
It says on the label: English Perry Pears, grown in this region since Norman times. Fermented and matured in oak vats. 8% vol.

I had a girlfriend once that was out in a club (under age) and a policeman stapped and asked her what she was drinking and she said I'll have a pint of Babycham please. She was asked to leave. hic!

I think that residents of Worcestershire might dispute the home of Perry.
Babysham was and is I fear is pretty dire stuff, surely the alcopop of its day?
Then of course there's good old pommagne for the real drinker.

They might but they did steal loads of stuff from us when we were the County of Hereford & Worcester. Now that was one divorce that was justified.I think that residents of Worcestershire might dispute the home of Perry.
So will residents of Kent dispute they are the main county of hops, they're not, Herefordshire now is.
So will residents of Somerset dispute they are the home of cider, they're not, again Herefordshire is and probabley always will be.
Did I say I live in Herefordshire?
I consider Herefordshire as being a little bit of paradise in Britain.
Come and visit the Wye valley, Hereford the birth place of Nell Gwynne and Frank Oz. Other famous Herefordians include actor David Garrick (1717-1779), actress Beryl Reid (1920-1996), Mott the Hoople, The Pretenders (except Chissy Hyne) and many more including myself. The home of the world famous Hereford cattle but be careful..... it's also the home of the S.A.S.
