Perfect compact travel/pocket camera

I recently sold on my MX-1 as I found the lens etc limiting, in its place I bought a Lumix TZ-71 (same as UK 70) and wish pentax could offer something like this beauty.
The zoom range and image quality is great, same sensor size as MX-1, but the settings/software side are way ahead and the ultimate extra is the Electronic viewfinder.

I really hope they will look at the market and go for a slightly smaller MX-2 with the same kind of feature set as the TZ-71 but with the unique Pentax styling, I´d certainly be keen to jump back to Pentax for my in pocket camera needs.
The Q doesn´t cut it because you have to change lenses to get anywhere near the lens coverage, and it is bulky in pocket with lenses on unlike the TZ-71.
I feel Pentax were starting to almost get there with the Optio VS 20 but I think they should invest in R&D for the higher end travel market.

The Optio 750Z was a great wee camera, pity Pentax didn't develope the line as it was year ahead of it's time.

I use a Panasonic LF1 for my lightweoght (cycling) camera.

I get the impression the Pentax range is moving back towards where it started, as an SLR manufacturer with various format options. It used to be 110/35mm/645/67 and is similar now, with Q/APS-C/35mm/645. "SLR" now reads "Interchangeable lens" as the Q is, of course, mirrorless. Maybe another mirrorless option will join those at some time if current rumours are true.

Whatever our requirements though, there will be plenty of choice in the marketplace as a whole.

I agree, Bruce. A faster operating system and an EVF would be great for an MX-2. I don't mind the "limited" zoom as it's so bright and is such a sharp lens.

I bought a Fuji X30 with the Xtrans sensor and have been very happy with it.

My family bought me a Canon G7X with 1 inch sensor (newer model just out). No viewfinder but nice to have in case on belt for an evening out. Good in low light due to larger sensor, lousy battery life. I will still lug my K3 and lenses to Crete later this month. I would have missed kingfishers last year if i hadn't.
