People are dropping like flies

just a though over the last few weeks quite a few prominent forum members have sold there kit or decided to sell up and switch brands, Any reasons why?

I would be interested in knowing this too

The amount of people leaving and joining the "pentax family" fluctuates, but it is more likely to happen when a camera is released - On the one hand, new people buy it, on the other, the camera is not what someone is looking for and they decide to move on to a brand that suits them more. Thing is, the new pentax users just havent become "prominent" members yet, so you have not noticed them joining..

An interesting question. Indeed earlier today I went to areas as yet not explored on SRS called "Nikon". Lots of nice stuff, but nothing that made me think I should ditch my still very new GX20.

But. In the 18 months since I decided to start taking proper photographs again, I've gone Fuji S9600, Pentax K100D, K10D and Samsung GX20. From what I've been reading, Pentax K7 is not necessarily the next step...

However, in the meantime I've really got to find out how to stop life interfering with taking photographs.

As I see it, and as I believe the K-7 was described pre-release by pentax, it is a side step from the K20D, not a step upwards, and for that reason I personally don't see why I would want it - It looks nicer, it probably feels nicer, and it takes movies, but until HD video is perfect in DSLRs I dont see the point in investing just for that feature. I am guessing the AF system is better, but 90% of my photos are not of moving objects..

I see it, the image quality is the same, and at the moment thats all that matters to me, and nothing would budge me from the K20D apart from a vast improvement in that area. That is one reason I have mentioned moving brands, because I can see the D300 replacement suiting me, however I highly doubt I will be able to afford it, and even still, is it worth it?

Think this has been touched on in some of the K-7 discussions, but it seems to me that a lot of people think that the next body/system upgrade will lead to a quantum leap in the quality of the pictures they take. In the meantime I'll carry on trying to figure out how to make the best of my existing kit - I'm of the opinion that any shortcomings are mine and not the cameras

I completely agree, I know I'm still learning, and have a lot to learn. My K10D is more than enough for me for the time being.

I don't think this is true necessarily. I am sure that in any given week there are people deciding to leave one brand and try another. Maybe it just seems more visible here due to the nature of the forum.

I am certain all the big camera brands have very good cameras which do the job brilliantly. Some are more expensive than others and you pays your money and takes your choice.

In film I was/am a devout Pentaxian, but now I'm in the digital age I would say that I am currently agnostic and am waiting for my damascene conversion

When you find out, let me know. I haven't had time to make any serious attempt at taking photographs in about 4 weeks
