It's an option for Moderators.

Can I put forward a motion to change the name 'moderator' to 'Forum God'?

Stickies could well be the way to go. We could perhaps have a submission of an 'article' (thread describing a subject) to be made a sticky. We could then have an accompanying thread discussing the accuracy of that article, and amendments could be made to the article by the Forum Gods until it was deemed 'complete'.

A statement at the top of the article along the lines of "This article was compiled from an initial submission by *username* and subsequent discussion on *this thread* (with a link to the original discussion). If you have any additions or comments please add them to the above thread for discussion." could help ensure that the article remained up to date and people were happy with how the information was gathered.

I think it would be good to include references too.

Er, Dan, are you having a moment of Power Madness? Perhaps we'll just stick to making moderator Moderator for now?

I was thinking along similar lines - a wiki page with the concrete facts (that cannot be argued with - for example, an f2 lens is slower than an f1.7) then a link to a thread debating the relative merits of different lenses/bodies/whatever, for example the various 28-80mm (ish, also include 28-70, 35-70, 35-80 and 28-90).

Sample images could also be posted showing the best results that can be achieved with the gear being covered in the article.

isn't that duplicating content from pentaxforums?

OTOH, they don't link to Bojar's K-mount pages, either. Why not?

There are very few, if any, concrete facts. Generally, the more we know the more there is to know...

I can see both arguments for and against regarding WIKI formats, for me, when I first joined the forum I had a lot to learn and found the site search facility almost unusable, even now trying to find past conversations is quite an effort. I feel the need for some form of static information base, even if it is to help those new to photography, or those bogged down in deep questions about lens construction and so on.... I have seen some of the forums more knowledgeable and patient members recount the same information many times, a great credit to their patience and enthusiasm.

The head of the Church of Scotland is called the Moderator, pretty close to God really.

I was thinking about such system but instead of stickies using a wiki.
The current problem now is to edit a topic here on this forum will ask quite a lot on moderators who already have their hands busy keeping us in line.
Also a sticky would be maybe even more discouraging to ask questions then a wiki off site, since a sticky is always in plain view.

We can assume that new members don't know about the wiki so that they will ask an question, if it's a general question there is an article about then you can guide them to the wiki and say if there are any question afterwards that he/she shouldn't be afraid to ask them.
This way you accomplish three things.
- The OP is directed to a well writing article.
- The OP is encourage to ask questions about the article.
- It take less time for us.
Of course we hope there are question afterwards since you learn the most from them, because an explanation in a slightly different way might be the eureka moment where everything falls together.

Indeed Graham, great respect for those members who are so helpful and patience.

I also find it a pain to use the search engine, it's very hard to find something even if you know what you're looking for.

Maybe an option where you can set how far back it must look might be helpful.
Sometimes you get hits from 2004, they might be helpful of course but most of the time I at least don't want to look back more then a year or 6 to 3 months.

Also I've some troubles with some setting s of the search engine... I should contact the forum about that...

Hi, I came across this thread while searching for Pentax info on google. I thought I'd point out that we've got a sizeable but incomplete collection of information about Pentax cameras over at Camera-Wiki.org (previously known as Camerapedia). You're certainly welcome to contribute improvements there. Many of our editors are more interested in vintage cameras, so the modern Pentax digital cameras and lenses have not been well documented yet.

As pointed out in this thread, discussion forums are a better place for personal interaction. But a wiki is a great first stop for users who need information on a specific camera or lens. So we try to provide the information they need and then offer links on each camera brand to online communities like this one in the hopes they'll get more involved.

Anyway, consider this an invitation for any Pentax users who are interested to visit Camera-Wiki.org and do some editing.

There is now an Articles section on Pentax User and articles could be submitted or suggested to PentaxDan.

There are also a large number of articles on ePHOTOzine.

Adding them into this forum would really clutter things up, especially as they are already with us in the appropriate place.

There is a tab marked "Suggest an article" so please suggest articles there if you so wish!
Best regards, John

John, thanks for the info. I've updated the Pentax section of our wiki with direct links to this forum and to your articles section.
