I think you can just put that down to being a "man thing" Gwynn. I have photo and computer mags in both our upstairs and downstairs toilets.
Think you're right there . I've heard it referred to as 'the reading room'

Thankfully my husband never actually got round to making bookshelves and putting them up there
Well with a nice wide-screen television installed, some bookshelves, the only excuse to leave then would be to eat.

There's been no decisions made about anything yet, it's just an avenue we're interested in exploring. In the short-term I believe it would be easy for us to do both anyway. Thanks for your thoughts so far, keep them coming!

Dan - would it be viable to do both and give readers the choice?

Yes because at my age I have great difficulty reading magazines where the small text is overlaid on a coloured or distracting background, in fact I've given up on buying magazines as this text over image style seems to be the in thing with all magazine editors/publishers.

In PDF format I can always hit Control +.

I'm a former PU magazine subscriber. I gave it up as I got out of the habit of reading magazines altogether and prefered to spend the £19 on other things.

The lower cost of £10 might make me come back to it (in the pdf form) if member benefits were included.

PU isn't printed in that sort of style.

I've voted yes... with the proviso that all the other benefits remain included.

To be honest, I've let my PU sub lapse, because I don't find enough meat in the magazine articles.

From the glowing things people tend to say about it, I suspect I may be a lone voice here, but I often end up feeling that the articles are a bit lightweight, especially the camera reviews. I liked John's articles on lenses a few months back, but even then I suspected there he has a lot more in depth knowledge that didn't make it into print.

For half the price but the same benefits, a PDF that I'd keep (rather than a mag that I don't usually) would be more attractive, but even so, I wish that the content was in more depth.

Chris- I agree! I find it worthwhile subscribing but it is a bit lightweight - I suspect its a bit of a shoestring operation and contributors put in a lot of their free time so I cut it some slack. I wish there was more content for advanced/aspiring users who have got past the basics. More in depth equipment tests. The K-x one focussed more on its special effects filters than its image quality. Testing its performance on a night shoot or indoors might have been interestin.

There are still some excellent articles, such as the recent insect macro one. That was the sort of article you don't see in many other places. Scouring flickr for interesting Pentax users around the world might be a good way of generating further similar articles. What about our own members, like Lilly or Pauly for example.

Not for me i`m afraid. Personally i find it difficult to enjoy reading anything more than a few lines on a screen. Anything longer than that i will print out and read in comfort. The quality of the Paper used in PU mag has a big appeal for me. Ok some of the articles have reminded me of AP in the 70`s but you can`t beat the touch and smell of a quality mag.

This sums it up, I think. PU Mag seems aimed at beginners. Nothing wrong with beginners, but by the time someone gets to the point of signing up to a magazine subscription, aren't they going to be a little beyond that?

From the 09/4 issue...
"ISO sensitivity determines how fast the sensor reacts to light, and the higher the number, the faster it reacts. The K-x has a range of ISO200 to ISO6400 which is a healthy range."
Quite honestly, it doesn't get any more vacuous or beginnerish than this, and it just annoys me, especially as it's not even accurate.

I know this is just one example, but do I find myself frequently rolling my eyes at things like that. So not for me any longer, although the SRS and Pentax servicing discounts are worth having.

Hmmmmm = some of us still need that basic sort of stuff .

I've been thinking of subscribing - not actually done it yet mind , but I will.

I honestly prefer to read a magazine - BUT the PDF idea would save me having to build a stack of magazines for future reference - and that would be good .

PDFs may also be much better for non-UK residents.

What I think we have to remember, is that there will always be beginners, but beginners will grow up and then of course they are replaced by more beginners

No easy answer .

I voted yes as the postage to Spain is a bit high, I can put the pdf file on my phone so I can take it anywhere, including the loo
