Pentax spotmatic + flash unit

There was no point in producing a flash specifically for the Spotmatic, because at that time all flashguns operated in exactly the same way - the camera closed a circuit, and the flash fired.
Every flashgun fitted with a pc plug or a hotshoe contact would work with the Spotmatic.

The flashgun that Pentax made at the same time as the Spotmatic and is recommended in the Spotmatic instruction books is the Super-Lite II. Fully manual but quite powefull (ASA 100 F5.6 @ 15ft) it runs on 4 AA cells or on mains with an optional adaptor. It covers a 28mm lens, which is really quite wide. They come up on ebay sometimes which is where I got mine - it works too which is pretty good for a flash more than 30 years old.

The Spotmatics all had a PC comnnection. The First spotmatics did not have a flash shoe on top of the prism. They sold an optional shoe that cliped on to the eyepiece frame.
I've had great luck with any flash with a PC cord. There were many good ones from Vivitar - even Sears.
To make life easy, find ones with thyristors (sp?). They work a treat and eliminate all that pesky measuring and guide number figgerin'.
Have fun.

Can anyone enlighten me if Pentax made a specific flash unit to go with the spotmatic, and if so what was the model number. I have a completely manual Centon flash which fires ok, but wonder if Pentax had produced one specifically for the spotmatic
Cheers
