Pentax SMC A* 4.0/300mm
the old one is a 300mm F4.5, the new one a 30mm F4.
If the one you are referring to is the F4.5 has a minimum focussing distance of 2 m but more imortantly no "statief gondel" (can't think of the English for that off hand

Second hand in the Netherlands, when they come up, about €600.
The new on twice that, but with gondel, weatherproofing, SDM etc etc.
I know a couple of people who have one, and are happy with it - but one of them is planning on get the new one - because he uses it with a 2x converter a lot and then the speed makes a big difference. He'll probably hang on to the old one too, just because he collects lenses

I think it is ''tripod collar'', you were looking for

It's the 4.0 version. without collar. And manual focus. The 400 USD seems resonable to me, or am i mistaking now.

On Stan's site it is described as "staggeringly good", and if it were AF, I would expect it to go for much more money.
An FA* 300 1:4.5 went for UKP 561 recently, which compares well with the UKP 400 which I paid for my F version (which is more desirable).
