I think the images are very soft, either through inaccurate focusing or camera shake.
The DOF at f4.5 must be quite shallow as well, not helping the overall sharpness in this sort of scene.
If you have a sturdy tripod that might be a good way to go.

Agreed I should have use my tripod but the way I had parked did not allow me to!
