Pentax S40 Battery Depleted & Turn Off

I have a new Pentax S40 and intermittently I get the battery depleted message at switch on and the camera turns off. The first couple of times this happened I changed what I thought were low batteries and it fixed the problem. It was only after I got suspicious about high battery use that I relised the message was a lie. If I remove the batteries and let the electronics reset and then replaced the same batteries the camera runs OK again till the next time. This problem always seems to occur at the most inconvinient time. Any one else seeing the same problem??

I am having the exact same problem with the S50 model. Did you manage to find a solution or to contact Pentax about the problem?

You need to tell us what kind of batteries they are. There are a few reasons that taking them out and putting them back in would fix it, for example, oxydisation on the contacts. If they are non-rechargable batteries, they may not be upto the job.

Had the camera checked out by Pentax who say it tested OK.
Now using Energiser 2300 rechargeable NIMH batteries and so far so good and not seeing the same problem.

Please have a look at my post re batteries and the S50. Any answers would be appreciated.
