I've got my Dad's old Pentax Program A 35mm Film SLR camera
And I want to buy a new strap and basic lens for it.
Will DIGITAL SLR camera lenses fit for this camera?
Or do I have to spend the next 4 years searhcing through eBay and the newspaper?

Which lense models will fit this camera?

AND OH
HOW DO I CHANGE THE SHUTTER SPEED?
I can't figure it out.

Any of the Pentax K - "A" lenes would work. Modern K lenses would fit, but some of them say "designed for digital" so I don't know how the would perform. Of course you will not have auto focus.

The latest lenses will not work on your Program A because they don't have an aperture ring and wont cover the larger image circle required for film. Any Pentax K lens with an aperture ring with an 'A' on it will work perfectly.

The good news is that suitable lenses are readily available, and almost without exception, will work on Pentax DSLRs. Your DSLR lenses will fit your program A, but as has been mentioned, they will not allow any aperture control (they'll be stuck wide open) and most (not all) will vignette severely.

To set the shutter speed, as far as I can work it out. You have to set the dial around the shutter release to manual and set the aperture ring on an aperture, (not "A") Than Select a shutter speed using the two square buttons to the left of the release.

Sounds like you need a manual, down load one from here.

Note that the Program A and Program plus are the same camera.

Actually, since the Program A has Program mode, lenses without an aperture ring ARE usable, just only in Program mode (lenses without an aperture ring behave exactly like lenses with the aperture ring set to A).

As mentioned a lot of DA series lenses will vignette. Not all though, for example the 18-55 and 16-45 are full frame from about 24mm to full zoom.

Any Pentax lens from the FA series or earlier should work perfectly, DFA lenses should also work perfectly, FAJ, DA and DA* lenses will work in program mode only and the DA and DA*'s may vignette at some or all settings.

The Super A has Tv, but I don't think the Program A does.

If it does have it they yes it would also work in Tv

If you're after a good "standard lens" for it then look here

I have never seen one that cheaply, it's a well-regarded lens.
