Does anyone out there know if it's possible to link GPS data from the O-GPS1 to photos in Pentax Digital Camera Utility 4? I can't find any info on the Pentax website. If I can't use DCU4, what software should I use to map GPS locations to photos and Google Maps or similar?
Many thanks

Howard - as I understand it, GPS data is embedded as (or similar to) EXIF data, whichever GPS tool is used. I'm not even sure whether PDCU4 would consider this extra data of any relevance/significance to how it works, and thus "disregards" it.

As far as software goes, I think it is a feature of particular websites to "trawl" through a photo's additional data to determine if a standardised geo-positionary "signal" is encoded into the image.

I have found that Flickr will "geo-position" photos I take on my gps-enabled smartphone, but in the absence of a gps device in my Kr, I have to geo-position my photos manually.

I'm not even sure if this was the answer to your original question, but hopefully it is of some use.

Not really a direct answer to the question, but I found that the GPS unit puts the data in a non-standard place in the exif data. I found that opening photos in photoshop elements, they couldn't be placed on the map view, and the files had to be parsed to move the data. I'm sure I found a "how to" on the web somewhere, which covered getting the GPS data in the right exif field.

I would hope that pentax software could read the data from a pentax product though.

Lightroom. works a treat.

I Borrowed Miss Smeggy's mobile phone ( blackberry ) after installing a GPS logging app on it. I put in the car dashboard and drove around with my cam on it's drive by shooting mount and fired off loads of pics as a test.

Got home loaded the geolog file into lightroom and voila it automatically drew the route in google maps in it's map module and tagged the all selected pics.

I had to syncronise the time between teh camera and the mobile phone, which wasn'teasy given the Blackberry doesn't have a seconds readout. but I could easily shit the EXIF data of the series of pics back forth by a second or two to match the locations ( 2 seconds is quite a distance whiel driving.

Most of the go tags were within a metre accuracy. then just hit control-S and the GPS lcoation is written to the iamge file. Or is exported during a lightroom export caommand.

Just google 'lightroom geotagging tutorial' and there's plenty of youtube videos showing how easy it is
