Pentax ME super light meter problems

The batteries recently ran out on my Pentax ME super. I bought 1 and replaced it then realised that there were 2 to replace. I decided to try it anyway. I set the camera to auto exposure and, in the light meter, more than one indicator light appears. I then replaced the other battery, but the problem has not gone away. Any ideas?

I do know that it is recommended that batteries should always be replaced together and that old and new batteries should not be mixed.

I would suggest that uneven current flow between the two batteries could cause a problem. Perhaps you could start again with two new batteries.

That is exactly what I did but it didn't work. I'm a little reluctant to send it in for service - the cost will probably be comparable to the cost of a new (or working secondhand) camera.

We had the snow here in Dallas on Saturday so I had to get some pictures regardless. I suspect that the upper light in the meter is the correct one based on past experience and took a few...

That is a valid point - a second hand ME Super could well be cheaper than a repair, and might even have a longer guarantee.

I had the meter on my ME Super repaired a few years ago - about $100 US. Then the shutter went out a couple years later. I did not throw good money after bad, but bought a ZXM body and a K-1000. The ZXM does everything the ME Super did and then some. Some folks have a problem with the fact that it is mostly plastic as opposed to metal on the ME Super.......
