Hello -- just joined today to ask for some advice in camera matters -- due to the death of my fathers I have been left with a wide array of Pentax equipment with I know little about but my father said that the camera and lenses were different as he only photographed plants and flowers so they are all macro. There are two Pentax ILX or 1LX cameras one with a Pentax-F SMC 1:2.8 100mm Macro lenses the other with a Pentax-A SMC 1:2.8 100mm Macro lenses, there are other lenses to numerous to list. Can any one advise me if theses are out of the norm and what value they may be in decent condition second hand. Regards MEC176

Not sure about the cameras but the F 100mm f2.8 macro would fetch around £225/£250 on Ebay and the A 100mm f2.8 around £150/175.

If you let me know where you are I'm actually looking to buy Pentax cameras and lenses at the moment, but in any event I'd be happy to advise on values. It very much depends on the condition of the kit and the actual items you have.

You could start by offering items on the Classified sections of this forum, although if you have the means and time eBay could bring higher prices. I would pay lower prices but might take the lot in one go.
Best regards, John

Are these your cameras? Link

If so, congratulations! You have a pair of Pentax LX cameras and they are highly sought after and relatively valuable (£300+ each).

Please do list the other lenses, it sounds like your late father had some very nice equipment. Are there any accessories too (bellows, flashes, etc)?

Condolences on your loss.

If you catalogue all of your late father's gear and post the list here, some/many might be interested.

You need to be very specific. Note the exact wording/lettering on all items.

Of one thing you can be sure, your father's Pentax gear will live on and produce many more memorable images.

Again many thanks Mr Riley I was amazed at the amount of equipment he had gathered, not being a photographer my self, there must be 100 different filters four different flash units attachments for microscopes etc studio lights and I think a Knome enlarger still in it's box he has saved most of the boxes and I am trying to match them up -- I will consider what you say and try and get a list together for valuation.

There are many people on this forum with experience of buying and selling used Pentax equipment, if you post a list on this thread you'll get a fair idea of what everything will fetch on eBay (expect less money if you sell items together or via this site, however, you'll be saving hassle and eBay fees so the net result could be much the same).

Whatever you do, if you sell on ebay, sell the pieces individually, not as a job lot. You'll get much more for them.

EG: I recently sold a lens for approx £100. Another auction included that same lens attached to a camera which was worth next to nothing. It sold for half what I sold my lens for. That's the difference.
