has anyone used this lens is it a good zoom to buy and is the f4 constant

I have one and use it. Yes, the f4 is constant. It is very sharp. It is always in my camera bag - a definite keeper.

You might also checkout what others think on this "other" forum

This is one of lots that I took with it on holiday in Clachtoll (Sutherland) a couple of years back. I claim no artistic merit for the photo, but the crops show that it is pretty sharp.

If you are patient, you might get one on ebay for £25 or so. At that price it is a real bargain.

It is a good lens, although I wouldn't rate it as highly as the zooms of today or the primes from its own era.

Stopped down, it can produce very nice, crisp shots.

AS with all telephoto lenses, the biggest enemy to sharpness is camera movement, followed by aerial haze. The former is less of an issue these days, now we have SR.
