Never happened to me either (and thats with plastic hoods 10-15 years old and in regular use - notably all are sigma or tamron!) but i dont have any hood with the slide out bit.
The only problem i have had is the hood becoming loose from repeated taking on and off the lens.

Do you carry your lenses with the hoods facing normally or reversed??
I can understand the 16-45 hood cracking as it's quite thin, but the 60-250 is fairly chunky and would take a bit too crack it.:

Always reversed and the crack has been on the thin piece of plastic left were you to take out the slide bit.
It wont click into place when reversed for storage.

Maybe this makes it a bit tight in the bag and puts the hood under stress?Always reversed and the crack has been on the thin piece of plastic left were you to take out the slide bit.
I don't reverse the hoods, but put them separately in the Billingham Hadley Pro. There's enough room to do this. So far, no problems with any hoods apart from the 1970s square clip on one for the 50mm. I'll exclude this as a problem because it's basically been used for so long on so many 50mm lenses that it's just fair wear and tear.
Best regards, John

I just don't use the standard hoods!
I keep them safe at home and, should a hood be needed, use a cheap ebay one that's dispensable.

Then what's the use of having a hood if you leave them at home?

What do you keep them at home for? They are the perfect hoods for the lens they came with and should be used all the time.

Your call I suppose - remember they're not ornaments or trophies, they're tools. Very useful tools that are meant to be used

For the second time I have taken my camera out of the bag to find the lens hood cracked. First it was a DA 16-45mm and now my 60-250mm hood has a bloody great crack in it. If I were carrying these lenses round with me all the time and was a bit heavy handed with the bag I could understand but normally I have my Sigma 70-200mm in there and nothing has happened to that in all this time. As soon as I put a Pentax lens in .. crack.
Noticed both times its where the little slide out bit is for the filter rotation .. obviously a weak point.
Very annoying.(Rant over).
Just use some more designer red tape....It will match your camera!.....I would prefer green myself"
