Pentax K3ii camera, lenses, flash unit and battery grip

Posted 26/07/2017 - 18:37 Link
If anyone is interested I've scheduled an eBay listing for 30/7/2017 for my K3ii , some lenses (16-85 mm, 50-135 mm and 200 mm) plus a grip and a flash unit.
The camera was bought on 23 January this year, the rest on 1 February - all from the Pentax dealer in Conway, North Wales (receipts available).
I am selling the camera etc because I realise now that I’ll never be the photographer I'd hoped to be earlier this year. This kit deserves to belong to someone with the eyes to exploit its real potential.
It's been an expensive mistake but I feel that it would be a mistake also to hang on to expensive stuff I'll never be able to use properly. At least this way I'll recoup some of my "investment".
I'll either buy a bridge/compact camera more suited to my skill level or stick with my K50 and kit lenses.

It might be worth listing them here first with prices somewhere between what you'd like on eBay less the 10% selling fees (including postage charges) and the 3.4% PayPal fee (plus 20p) if that's how you'd expect payment. That way you make a little more, and any buyer here pays a little less. Photos of the items also help sales ☺️ Good luck!

I'm pretty sure you're doing yourself an injustice there. We're all learning all the time as we find out new things and ideas to try and experiment with. Rome wasn't built in a day and you started with such enthusiasm. I've just been re-reading your early posts here and feel it's a shame you're abandoning ship so quickly.

Is there a fee for advertising on the Forum?

I don't believe you bought the camera in Conway

I think you're about 5-10 miles out west and bought it in COLWYN BAY, from those nice people at Cambrian. Don't start me off about misspelling Conwy

Anyway - it is free to sell. I could be tempted by the K3ii and 16-85. You'd get an idea of the price from other listings in the forums.

However!! JAK has a good point - don't put yourself down, it takes time to get used to equipment - I still love my suidicidal K3, it looks unloved but it is a gem to use.

And to add to my post above, I was terrified of my K200D when I got it. I was equally frightened by my K20D. My current K5iiS had me in fear of not being able to use it properly! These pieces of technology are so highly advanced and feature-filled it's easy to be in awe of them!

I've barely scratched the surface with my K5iiS and yet I still enjoy using it. If you enjoy using your camera and photography then keep playing with the camera, experiment with it, play around. I've had days when I've deleted almost all the photos I've taken! Persevere and the results you expect will come in time.. ☺️☺️

If you're struggling to find the point of it, try the following (that blew my mind) as a little experiment. On a nice clear day, take a shot in RAW format of any landscape but expose for the sky.

Later, use any post processing software to bring the exposure up a bit, drop the highlights as low as you can, then bring the shadows up. It's amazing to see what these cameras are capable of!

Here's a little example of what I came up with the other day. The original image was really really underexposed

Thanks Welsh Wizard. You're quite correct - it was Cambrian Photography in Colwyn Bay.
I'm not enjoying the benefits of the kit because I don't seem to see the angles that produce the great shots I see online; because however careful I try to be with my settings I never seem to get the image quality that friends seem to get with their Panasonic FZ1000s or even smartphones; I don't see the photo opportunities that others seem to; and I forget the simplest things. Even photographing my items for sale today I forgot to dust the stuff first. I find it difficult even to follow the manual. For example there is a great thread about using the K3ii's multiple exposure facilities to avoid the need for ND grad filters but when I tried to follow the instructions and the specific settings my camera only fired once rather than the number of times I'd requested. I'd tried the Forum settings in burst mode, single shot mode, with and without self timer. Same result. Maybe I'm just too thick as well as lacking creativity..

I have tried this in LIghtroom but never as successfully as you HarisF1. I' tried to upload before and after images to illustrate this but when I click on image and select either .dng 0r jpeg images of before and after I get a message that the image type is wrong! Story of my life.

I've got 42 images in all that I uploaded to eBay but given my difficulty so far tonight in trying to upload just 2 shots I can't see myself being able to advertise my 5 Pentax items on the Classified Forum.

AndrewH seems to have a Flickr link. I've uploaded tons of my stuff to Flickr as gerald murphy (geraldmurphyx) if that helps.

There are some cracking shots in there. I would recommend giving a bit of post-processing a shot. For me, the challenge was to stop taking lots of shots and to start planning my shots better. I take the best of the best and PP them. Some of them are still awful by most people's standards, while others are well received. That's the point of it all anyway!
