Perhaps they only have enough production capacity for two camera lines? The K200D almost certainly took quite a few sales away from the K20D and it's continued existence makes the K-m look expensive - shame though!

Personally I think the K200D was too much like the K10D but without the extra wheel and different viewfinder.
Those 2 things were enough to make me buy the K10D and when retailers like SRS still have stocks at around the same price I would make the same choice.
The K-m looks a lot more funky though ....

Enthusuasts who are relatively "in the know" probably make up a very small percentage of buyers, so I doubt that there will be much of a negative effect.
The K200D is pretty much like the *istDS and similar cameras, so maybe that production in a generic sense is drawing to a close.

Perhaps this means that we will soon see a K300D and a K30D!

All the cameras I have bought in recent years were discontinued models. That's how to get best value for money.
Many first-time buyers won't realise that the camera is no longer being made, and it won't matter.

They may be online, but not reading forums like this. The news could easily be missed by an average punter. Thankfully a lot of "ordinary people" buy Pentax cameras, not just us Pentax geeks!

The Japanese market is different to the UK. They tend to buy a basic model or a top of the range and rarely in between. So, it could be that they were not selling any in the local market.
Does anyone have details on when the various *istD range models were discontinued in Japan and the UK?
