Pentax K10D Flash fit.

Being a new owner of a Pentax K10D and a AF-540FGZ flash, I am wondering if anyone else has a fit problem with flash to camera.

My combination is very very tight going in and out of hot shoe. Never had this problem with any other camera/flash combo. I realize they have to be a good fit, however this is way too tight.

Is this common ?

Any solutions other than sending back to Pentax ?

How long have you had the flash unit and used it? I only ask as mine was tight to start with but over time became easier to insert and remove, though still locking down correctly.

You don't mention your experience level, but do make sure that the tightening level/nut is always fully open before doing anything.

Do be careful if it is a very tight fit to only push and pull the unit at the part right above the hotshoe and not higher as it could damage one or the other.

Does the plastic cover that comes with the K10D fit OK in comparison or is that equally as awkward?

My AF360FGZ was tight on my istD when new but it soon got a bit slacker, slack enough to drop off my K10D in York Minster, creating one hell of a racket and sending batteries skittering across the floor and finishing off the last remaining lug on the battery compartment door, I can remember when Pentax (and all the other marques) made things to LAST!

And while i'm having a gripe I must also complain that our TV has just gone on the blink and we haven't had it all that long, I suppose we'll have to get one of those new fangled colour ones now

Just got the flash.

Understand if one is not very careful, the flash can get locked on the hot shoe !!!!! Lock Pin breaks. As tight as this is, I don't need any pin.

The cover goes on and off much easier than flash.

My K10D/AF360FGZ combo was incredibly tight at first, but now it's been on and off 50 or 60 times it slides in and out as smooth as butter. I think you just have to let them bed in and be very careful not to put too much pressure on the foot like chirpy pointed out above.

I guess it will loosen up after time.

Just afraid something may come apart. Not so much going in, but with the wiggling side to side to get it out. There is no way it will come straight back and out.

The very knowledgeable guy in the camera store suggested just a very light wipe on either side with some silicone. I may just try that.
