Hello,

Does anyone have any specific questions about the Pentax K-30 that they'd like answering?

Cheers,

Josh

Given current prices is it worth buying over the K5?

Is John doing a review for you or do you have a new expert in house now?

Hi, the review will be in-house,

Here's a quick comparison of the three SLRs, I'll be able to post parts of the review as we go:

I'd like to see real life comparisons of autofocus. Tracking fast moving subjects such as birds in flight. Ideally I'd like the comparison done with the Sigma 150-500. As I can't see that happening the 55-300 would be a suitable consumer alternative with regard to max aperture.

Does the K5 have 16 segment metering I believed it to have the 77 version?

Oh yeah - can I borrow the K30 for a few years
K10D, K5 plus plenty of clueless enthusiasm.

The K5 handbook says on page 358 that it has 77 segment metering.

Pentax also announced a 'near 100%' field of view for the K30, has that changed in production?

I'm quite surprised how close in size and weight they both are given the lack of the metal shell and the LCD, several sockets etc missing on the K30

Any chance of tethered shooting with lightroom?

Re 16/77 segment metering: I took the specs from the Pentax website. I will ask Pentax to clarify.

On some of the K-30 literature it says "near 100% field of view" and on others it says "approx 100%" (the Pentax UK website says approx 100% for both the K-30 and K-5)

The K7 has 77 seals and 77 segment metering - it was a part of the marketing, all the 7's. The K5 is an upgrade!

I really want to know more about the video capabilities, such as focus during video, internal microphone noise and the various resolutions/frame rates avaliable. Also how is the video white balance and apature/gain (ISO) control handled?

Hi, the video options are the same as the K-01, with P/AV/M, Full HD/HD/VGA, 30/25/24fps, quality 3/2/1 star, 5 audio levels, Movie SR (On/off). You can also set custom image (Bright, Natural, Portrait, Landscape, Vibrant, Radiant, Muted, Bleach Bypass, Reversal film, Mono, cross processing), Digital Filter, Metering, Focus (Contrast AF: Face detection, Tracking, Select, Spot), as well as shadow and highlight correction. ISO can't be adjusted unless you are in full Manual mode. In manual mode shutter speed and ISO can be adjusted while recording. Exposure compensation is available while recording video in any mode. White balance can be selected prior to recording but not during.

edit: A couple of videos can be found here:

(Handheld to see how SR copes)
