Pentax K-3 USB Connection ?

Hello Pentax People, Has anyone connected a Pentax K-3 to a Mac computer using a USB/2. The USB connecter lead is NOT supplied with the Camera. It seems to be omitted from the K-3 list of extras in the box.
Could this be that the usb lead will have to be purchased with all new Cameras in the future.

I suppose that seeing not everyone uses the leads and they are more often than not left out when cameras are sold second hand, there must be quite a waste in leads.

Some manufacturers don't include a proper charger either, which is something I do find essential.

I used a cable I had from a HTC phone, if that helps

Do you really need a USB cable? I take the SD card out and put it into a slot on the computer. The supplied USB cables never seem to get unwrapped!

If you want the USB cable I believe it is a USB 3 micro B connector (different to micro B for USB 2) but it will still work on USB 2 ports just slower, and I think I am right the cable is what comes with external HD that are USB 3, my last 2 came with this style anyway.

It is a USB 3 (USB 'B') one that is required, I bought a high quality one from Amazon for only £1.40 and it is lightning fast at transferring files from the K-3. I don't like to keep removing memory cards as it risks damaging them and wearing the contacts.

I agree. I presently use the 'remove the card' technique, but would probably opt for the USB lead IF I had a USB 3 port on my computer (don't know, haven't checked as have no USB 3 devices yet). USB 3 is likely to be faster than using a card reader, which presumably is USB2 on the backend.

These are standard cables though, but you'd want to make sure the lead was USB3 compliant. Sounds a bit like printers, which stopped giving out printer cables yonks ago.

And every tine you connect/disconnect the cable you will be causing wear on the micro contacts. They are a lot more delicate that those on the SD card slot.

I have a few devices where the micro USB connector is worn/stressed and does not always connect correctly.

My K-5 became very temperamental with SD cards (any card, not just an individual one) due to removing them to view all the time. I've never had any issues with the USB connection on any of my cameras despite using them constantly for uploading images, so I prefer to judge by my own experience on this. Each to their own!

Buy a Flu card when they arrive, no more of either method of faffing then, as long as you only need one card.
