Pentax in Dixons.

Going through terminal 3 at Heathrow this morning I noticed that, for the first time in ages, Dixons were not only stocking Pentax DSLR’s but actually had a Pentax display, albeit it was a bit smaller than the. Canikon ones.

The interesting thing was the range of products stocked, not only was there a K5, Kr and Q but 6-7 lenses including a DA*50-135, DA10-17, DA100mm – not normal kit lens stuff.

It makes me wonder if the aim of the recent price increases was to make a wider retail channels of channels viable, in which case it could be working….

Just got back from our Curry's/PC World (same mob), one lonely KR, nothing else.

Bought a food processor so I'll be delighted to browse at manchester Airport on way out in a a few weeks time It does sound promising for brand exposure if not actual shopping. From some of the increase news coming out of the US I think i'll be buying more grey import Sigma lenses though!

Dixons is a real low budget store, so Pentax is going to be more common for more people!

Dixons/PC World/Currys/Currys Digital are all the same firm with almost a monopoly in electricals in some towns. As Dixons they were (many years ago) a camera shop. I wouldn't call them low budget and their airport shops are hardly bargain basement unless London has something different.

What we all want is Pentax back in real camera shops. I went to Sheffield to one who were quite apologetic that they were tied to the big duopoly that they held stock for in depth to achieve pro dealer status. Their idea of 'minority interest' was a Leica cabinet!

The Dixons in Terminal 4 at Heathrow had no Pentax gear at all on Weds last, not even a compact.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.
